Rainbow Bear is the story of a polar bear in his snowy home who wishes to absorb a rainbow. When his wish comes true, he finds he can no longer hunt or hide because he stands out against his white environment. He becomes weak, is captured by greedy men, and taken to a zoo to be put on display. He longs for his wild, white home... I enjoyed this book with my son who is nearly 5. I would recommend it for 4-7 year-olds.

This book is an excellent book to develop children's vocabulary. It contains powerful verbs and adjectives, and there are some alliterative phrases here and there. This book also has a very strong message about being careful what we should wish for, as well as making children think how animals must feel in a zoo.

This is a lovely story of a bear who longs to be different. When he snuggles down for a sleep, he dreams that he becomes rainbow coloured. He is unable to hunt, and is captured and put in a zoo, needing help to escape. He escapes and returns to his snowy home. At the end of the book, he wakes from his dream. There are two great messages here - that what you want isn't always the right thing for you, and that dreams aren't real. My son (nearly 4) loves this book, and it has helped him to understand that his bad dreams aren't real.
