I bought this at magna, the science museum housed in the former Steelos, the topic of this Radio ballad.

The songs vary but it is well constructed and the memories of the participants are a fascinating glimpse of social history.

Magnificent 24 Dec 2011
Format:MP3 Download
Regardless of your views about the Miners' Strike, this magnificent Radio Ballad stands as a remembrance of the most turbulent period in recent British life. It is told without commentary by the voices of the participants interspersed with specially commissioned songs.

All of the New Radio Ballads are worth listening to and all yield treasures on repeated listens. Of the seven made this one, though, is in the first rank and is unhesitatingly recommended.

An excellent CD. It is a copy of the radio program so songs are interspersed with tales of the steel workers. Clever use of steel making sounds, they blend with the songs, create a great atmosphere and link the tales from of a bygone industry. Nostalgic but never sentimental. A brilliant piece of radio but you would expect nothing else from John Tam. Don't buy the CD if you expect a series of songs their is a lot of fascinating dialogue.
