ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Joe Weaver was born in New York City. At the age of twelve, Joe became very interested in philosophy, spirituality, and religion. At sixteen, he would visit different ashrams in upstate New York, where he practiced yoga, reflexology, herbology, and meditation. Joe studied biology at the State University at Stony Brook, New York, where he received awards for excellence in biological research. After graduating, Joe went to Tulane University in New Orleans, to participate in a research project, which was later published in the European Journal of Pharmacology, March 1993.
In 1994 Joe went to Germany to study medicine as an exchange student. Eighteen months into the program, he had a change of heart towards medicine and moved back to the United States.
Back in the United States, Joe noticed that he was losing his spirituality, and he did not like the "new" Joe that he saw. He was smoking more than three packs of cigarettes a day and was eighty pounds overweight.
At an attempt to rediscover his lost soul, Joe traveled to Egypt, India, Nepal, and Tibet to find himself. The result of his journey was the book Nic The Habit, a spiritual approach to quitting smoking without gaining weight." The second edition is The Tao of Quitting Smoking. Since the first edition, Joe has helped thousands of people quit smoking and has lectured in malls, bookstores, and colleges throughout New York City about the dangers of smoking and secondhand smoke. Joe also won the 2002 American Cancer Societys Great American Smoke-out Award, for leadership in building a smoke-free environment in New York City.
