Product Description

Product Description

Starring John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara, It is a love story (a storyabout an Irish-American who returns to the soft, romantic place of hisbirth after enduring a gritty upbringing in Pittsburgh) set famously in an impossibly beautiful west of Ireland, around Galway Bay, quite close to Ford's ancestral home, with the village of Cong in County Mayo as the primary location. The soundtrack combines Victor Youngs' moving orchestral score with Irish folk songs sung by Merv Griffin and Bing Crosby. As an additional feature, our edition includes three Bing Crosby tracks recorded for the film but, in the end, not used, along with selections from the album, Maureen O'Hara Sings Her Favourite Irish Songs.

Product Description

2014 re-issue of the 1952 John Ford film. Feat. Bing Crosby & Merv Griffin. Includes as bonus tracks a selection of Maureen O'Hara's favourite Irish songs. el Records.

5.0 out of 5 stars Enchanting, just like the movie! 24 Sep 1999
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
I recently received this CD through Amazon and I must admit, I was little worried when I read "newly recorded" on the cover. I hoped too many liberties would not be taken with Victor Young's compositions. I had nothing to worry about. After listening to this CD, it joined my list of favorite sountracks. When listening to the music, you can almost envision the scene each track came from. This soundtrack also has an added bonus of a sung version of "Isle of Innisfree." Loved it!

These reviews must be for a different album (look at the dates). This cd is a brand new release. Im not familiar with the other releases, but this appears to be the original music.
5.0 out of 5 stars Not Soundtrack but still great 24 Mar 2000

No this is not the original soundtrack, which I usually prefer to buy. However for those who love the film, this CD is a terrific reminder of the joy of watching the marvelous performances. The tunes are very close to the originals, albeit there are differences. Much better than the usual motion picture "score" recordings. And since the soundtrack isn't available, this is the next best thing.

1.0 out of 5 stars This is not a soundtrack 2 Feb 2000
By Connie Bales - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
Beware of buying this CD. I bought this CD because the film is a favorite among friends and family. We believe that Maureen O'Hara is one of the most beautiful women ever to appear in film, and to have a recording of her singing those beautiful Irish songs was the principal reason I bought this CD. I am SO disappointed. Granted, the music is beautiful, and it will no doubt evoke memories of the film, but there is no substitute for the original Mary Kate Danaher, the lovely Maureen O'Hara.
