John Matthews Book takes you on a magical , mystical journey to find the "Greenman". He remains elusive , as you would expect , but John gives us tantalising glimpses of this most haunting of figures. We journey from Sumeria , Egypt , Iraj , India and Europe , in an effort to track Him down. His face peering at us from the wonderful pictures and photographs contained in the book . A definite "must" for all those interested in our Pagan Past and our modern day Ecology.

So interesting! 28 Jan 2009
By Mrs. PJ Taylor VINE™ VOICE
Format:Paperback
This is a truly beautiful and inspiring book written by someone with a genuine love of his subject. Having long suspected that Bacchus and the Green Man really shared the same roots, I was thrilled to find that Matthews validated this view. He also tied up for me many other loose ends of folklore and tradition and wove them into a coherent whole. This is a thoughtful and valuable book for anyone interested in earth magic. I thoroughly recommend it.

This book is much better than the previous Green Man book that I reviewed. The photos and illustrations are excellent as is most of the writing.

2 complaints really about this book. Mr Matthews repeats the statement that I found annoying in the other book. He says that Kirklees is near to Peterborough, it might have stated that in the old rhymes of Robin Hood, but Kirklees is in West Yorkshire. If the author had bothered to check out the facts, it would have helped. The other part that I didn't like were the guided pathworkings. I found them to be quite 'sterile; and not really needed.
