Format:Audio CD
A breath of calm in today's hectic world, this is a cd full of simply beautiful singing. Emma Kirkby is really at home in this repertoire, and it shows. In particular, Purcell's Alleluia and Handel's Gentle Morpheus stand out, as they lull the listener into a sense of serenity and calm. An outstanding cd.

Emma Kirkby has become renowned for her boyish bell soprano voice throughout the early "authentic" music revival which started in the 1970s. This budget compilation is a worthy sample of her singing which has a beautiful clarity and diction. Some may find her approach a bit cool but this suits these mainly liturgical pieces for performance in a church. The Mozart items are particularly welcome, including her unforgettable version of the famous "Laudate Dominum". We only get the first movement of "Exsultate, jubilate" but this is compensated by the Vivaldi motet "Nulla in mundo Pax..." which is given in its entirety. If your only exposure to Vivaldi has been "The Four Seasons" then give this charming piece a listen. Unfortunately there are no liner notes or texts, but this is still a very welcome issue and would make an ideal gift.

I bought this CD about two years ago and enjoyed it at the time as a way of starting my journey into classical music. The title got put to one side for a while but I have recently picked up on it again, having learned more about the music of the composers featured and also having listened to different singers. This title has considerably more to offer for me following the passage of time. One of the other reviewers mentioned that the release would benefit from sleeve notes and I agree but given the price of the CD and the quality of the work I can't grumble about that. It is a wonderful collection. Beautiful singing.

Relaxing and soothing
This CD was purchased as a gift, however, I have heard the tracks and it is very relaxing and soothing, very nice music to play when driving long distances.

Excellente
I did not hear about Emma Kirby till I heard her in a Bach Christmas Cantata. Ever since I have looked for her music. This CD is much appreciated. Especially the latter half. Read more

The voice of an angel !
Emma Kirkby's voice is stunningly beautiful - you could be forgiven for thinking you are indeed listening to the voice of an angel especially when listening to Exsultate Jubilate. Read more
