I think Jan Fennel's technique on communicating with your dog is amazing, and certainly I would encourage every dog owner to buy THE DOG LISTENER or THE PRACTICAL DOG LISTENER. If you already own the previous two books I am afraid you do not need THE PUPPY LISTENER, it is, in all essence, word for word (and I do mean that as many passages and examples are copies of earlier books) the same books repackaged with "puppy" replacing the word "dog". Perhaps the cheap price reflected this would be the case. As I say I would advise anyone to read up on Jan Fennel but I think this book was very much a money making idea from her publisher. However if this is your first puppy and you need a useful book to set you and your dog on the right path then I highly recommend.

You don't need this book if you already have The Seven Ages of your Dog and The Dog Whisperer. To be fair, Jan states this on her website so she's not trying to fool anyone. I love her stuff, she writes beautifully and she's easy to understand - important if you're freaking out over a 'problem dog' going through its routine in front of you! If you only want to deal with puppies, this book has all the info you need and stands alone. If, like me, you want to just bask in the knowledge and sensitivity which Jan brings to her work, you'll want to buy her other books too. When I got my two rescue dogs last year, I bought several books by other authors but found Jan's to be the best by far in terms of clarity and ease of application. You might want to augment the books with her DVD - it helps to 'fix' what you've learnt. I can't praise her work highly enough!

I couldn't agree more with the first review here. Although I am a big fan of Jan Fennell's methods and an avid reader of her books, I was dissapointed with The Puppy Listener because it repeats the contents of her two books The Dog Listener and The Seven Ages of Your Dog. In fact, I felt there was nothing new in The Puppy Listener at all! Therefore, it would be a good buy for someone unfamiliar with Jan's method who has aquired a new puppy but isn't worth buying if you already have one of the other books.

A basic puppy book, not enough on the behavioural side
I have also read 'The Dog Listener' and thought it was fantastic. I was disappointed with this one. Far too much general information about grooming and veterinary topics. Read more
