999 were the first punk/new wave band I followed in the 70's and I had not heard them for about 28 years...when I decided to buy this compilation. I had the early albums and singles on vinyl (long since lost), but hearing 999 again was a breath of fresh air I didn't expect.
Most of the songs stand up well today and I really had forgot how much energy and bravado the band had...with a lot of well crafted songs and the driving rhythm section of Jon Watson (bass) and Pablo LaBritain (drums) and the really excellent guitar work of Guy Days (sound like Kossof and even Hendrix at times)...not to mention Nick Cash on vocals - in his younger days he had that perfect slightly slurred, lisping and almost effeminate voice that was perfect for punk (sorry Nick I don't think anyone has called you effemiate before !).
Anyway, needless to say the CD is now on my I-Pod and has contributed to some good running sessions...trouble is I tend to sprint on the faster, high energy numbers which is ruining my attempts to run at even pace........
Buy this album....if you heard them back then you will be once again pleasantly surprised and if you've never heard them and want to hear one of the more talented and classier punk bands from the 70's grab a cop now.....
Enjoy........
