Ah back in the day. Thatcher, unemployment, strikes, NF, left wing demos, cold war, the indie charts, Diana. Then it all turned into Blair, Brit-pop, plastic socialists and chav rap.

This band really captured the spirit of the 80s. I am kind of sick of people these days going on about their 'political lyrics' er you see back then musicians were independent of big record companies and wrote about what they felt like rather than what was dictated to them to make as much money in as short a time as possible. That's why these days you have 5 minute wonders in the charts and bands like these are still listened to 2 decades later.

Raw Clash style music or even early Police played with the anger that many in that time felt. Too many songs to mention that really stand out but listening to them just really brings it all back.

"Living in a bedsit....bunking on the tube trains....sleeping all day long..and you know no one cos you don't go out.."

"They always try to blame it on the blacks but it's really those in power who stab you in the back...."

"Now I joined the army and believe it or not...I'm going to Northern Ireland and I'm gonna' get shot!"

Ah the memories!

Be neurotic 25 Feb. 2004
By Klaudio - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
what a jewel! If you never heard the newtown neurotics you're missing a excelent band, very similar to the first The Clash, politic lyrics, and very creative. This edition includes the whole LP "beggar can be chosers" and the only one under the name of Newtown Neurotics, later they became to just The Neurotics. the LP is an ok album, good but not amazing. this cd has 5 stars for the singles includes here, all (I mean ALL) the singles are terrific!!! 2 ramones covers with a blitzkrieg bop with different lyrics, This band has too much talent, they're not just punk with leather and dirty words...they has a message, they has (or had) something to say and they deserve to be heard.
This is one of the best cds I own.

An absolute must for any punk fan!!! 10 Mar. 2004
By Jonathan Heckman - Published on Amazon.com

If your looking for a Neurotics CD, get this one and not the Punk Singles Collection. The PSC is an okay comp but it is lacking The Mess and No Respect, two really great songs! If you are a fan of the Ramones, the Clash, Generation X and other classic poppy punk bands then you'll love this...if your more into stuff like the Exploited and GBH still give this a shot! I really don't know why this band didn't get as big as the bands mentioned above...mabey bad promotion...or mabey people are just dumb.

Great band... great songs... real message-music, but creative still... "Newtown People"-- hauntingly good... Mystery why more people haven't heard of them...
