Product Description

Puma is arguably the most exciting business story of the post-war era. After decades of ups and downs, the German sports footwear manufacturer pulled off a thrilling climb to the top. The brand that had once lost all its appeal is now one of the most desirable sports lifestyle labels in the world. Today, Puma sneakers, bags and shirts share shelves with Gucci, Prada and Dolce & Gabbana products. The man who freed the big cat from the clutches of the bargain counters was Jochen Zeitz. Aged just 30, he took over as Chairman and CEO of an ailing establishment. He turned the company around by sheer brute strength and lent its stock allure and excitement. So far, its value has increased by more than 4,000 percent under his command. All that time, there was silence from the Puma compound. Now, for the first time ever, a writer has been allowed to look deep behind the scenes and into the archives of the shooting star of Herzogenaurach, a small town in Germany. Behind the brand s coolness lies a well-oiled and extremely efficient marketing machine, probably the first functional virtual company in the world.
