5.0 out of 5 stars Nicely done alternative history fiction 24 Nov 1997
By A Customer
Format:Mass Market Paperback
James Hogan writes a well-written alternative history novel based on the premise "What if Hitler and the Germans 'won' WW2 due to American isolationism? JFK is the US President and America stands alone, the rest of the world dominated by the Nazis, the Japanese militarists, or Italian facists. The US government, being in a desparate situation, send a team back into time to change history. In doing so, the author explores the concept of "changing history" -- is time travel really travelling to a parallel universe? The plot is interspliced with plausible expla- nations of how Hitler came to power and how he could have won WW2. For alternative history buffs, I recommend it

4.0 out of 5 stars Good book, could use a little editing.... 25 Jun 1999
By A Customer
Format:Mass Market Paperback
Great story, my only complaints were that the first half of the book tends to drag on and on with details of these characters lives in 1940, which, frankly weren't that interesting, or relevant to the plot. My other problem with the book was that the whole premise of time running at different rates seemed to be rather contrived, just being created as a plot device, because there's no need for urgency otherwise if you've got time travel. The last third of the book is excellent, cleverly written, and full of action, and I still reccomend this to anyone who's a fan of time-travel or World War II. It wouldn't hurt to brush up on your knowledge of pre-war British Politics and the Manhattan Project first, however.....

5.0 out of 5 stars Actionfull time travel 13 May 1997
By A Customer
Format:Mass Market Paperback
Trapped by victorious Nazi Germany, future USA comes back to Second World War. USA and its allies then didn't know about the German atomic bomb. Now a commando force is going to teach them,if they still have time.

But the Nazis have an misterious helper, and time is big enough for more interested parties to get in the play.

The details, international cenaries, historical personages are outstanding.

Don't miss this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars If at first you dont succeed... 12 Feb 1998
By A Customer
Format:Mass Market Paperback
I really enjoyed this book. Alternate history, time travel theory, and Mr Winston Churchill. You dont have to have a major in history to appreciate whats going on. But if you are familiar with the time period, you'll enjoy the name dropping and seeing the events unfold and take shape. Very much recommended.

I love alternate history books but this one seemed to fall just short of my expectations as I love everything else of JPH's that I have read.
