Product Description

Product Description

Surprise, shock, and a shift in her comfortable life tumble into Katherine Price’s world when least expected. The future she has imagined suddenly vanishes, leaving little to focus upon beyond her career and the caregiving her elderly widowed mother might require.

Fate has other plans.

June in Provence is full of promise when Katherine arrives from Canada, eager to feel renewed by her surroundings. Endless rows of lavender prepare to burst into pink and purple blooms. Fields of sunflowers flow in golden waves among vineyards and olive groves. Ancient hilltop villages beckon. It’s the postcard setting she envisioned, but is that all she needs?

After a year of heartbreak, Katherine has impulsively agreed to a home exchange in the south of France. Colorful locals, a yellow lab named Picasso, and the inspiring beauty of the countryside breathe new life into her days.

Seeking to shed the pain of betrayal and loss, she struggles to recapture her joie de vivre and searches for the answer to a haunting question: is it too late to begin again?

As Katherine explores the romantic cobblestone lanes of medieval towns, discovers the intoxicating pleasures of Paris and savors the sun-kissed Côte d'Azur, she begins redefining the possibilities in her life.

An enduring story of hope and change in life’s later years is woven through the author’s love-letter to France. Like a well-travelled friend, Patricia Sands invites readers into a world she loves and entices them to linger.

"Be prepared to fall in love with Provence! This is a story that will draw you in with its vibrancy in setting and characters. A must read for any woman with a desire for romance and travel." Steena Holmes, author of Amazon bestseller Finding Emma

Her award-winning debut novel The Bridge Club was published in 2010 and her second novel, The Promise of Provence was an Amazon Hot New Release in April 2013, a USA Best Book 2013 Finalist and a 2013 Finalist in Literary Fiction, National Indie Excellence Awards. A new release is scheduled for Summer 2014.

Celebrating the rewarding friendships and bonds women share, her stories examine the challenges life often throws in our paths. Location features prominently in all of her novels.

The Love In Provence series ~ The Promise of Provence (2013); Promises To Keep (Summer 2014) ~ allows readers to lose themselves in the beauty of the south of France without leaving home.

At other events along with her Sommers & Sands speaking partner, author Susan Sommers, through keynotes, workshops and conferences, audiences are encouraged to embrace change and see challenges as opportunities.

Her philosophy is that it's never too late to begin something new, to seize each day and be a possibilitarian! As the saying goes, just do it! Hearing from readers (both men and women, from ages 20 to 84) is her greatest reward.

5.0 out of 5 stars Left me with a smile on my face 15 Oct 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
I'd like to start by thanking Janice at Loveahappyending for sending me this eBook to read and give an honest review.

There was a powerful scene to begin with, Katherine's emotions jumped out at me and made me feel so sad for her. She was a character who I easily connected with and enjoyed following her as she faced lots of difficult decisions. The main feeling I got from the storyline was all about learning to move on with life when massive changes are thrown at you, there was a strong sense of hope radiating from the pages.

A letter from Katherine's mother was particularly touching, I was fascinated and at the same time saddened by the story of her life during the war. This was a side of the storyline that I hadn't been expecting but thoroughly enjoyed.

The whole house exchange thing was so intriguing and was the factor that led Katherine back to France. This was the part I had been looking forward to the most and I'm pleased to say that I wasn't disappointed by it - from the delicious food to the beautiful scenery, the author's warm words made me feel as though I were right there in France alongside Katherine. She somehow managed to find herself in a couple of sticky situations on her travels which just added to the atmosphere. The romantic side was well written, it felt very natural and gentle and I think that this made it more believable. Another great part of this book for me was Picasso the dog, he reminded me very much of my own dog so I really enjoyed his scenes.

This was a book that left me with a smile on my face and the strong desire to visit France!

4.0 out of 5 stars The Promise of Provence by Patricia Sands 10 April 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
When a life changing event happens to Katherine, changing her life in an instant, her world crumbles and completely falls apart. Slowly she begins to pick up the pieces and she decides to take part in a home exchange programme, to take some time out of her life and travel to the South of France.

It is in the South of France where the adventure begin for Katherine, travelling alone she is about to find her own identity, a new person within herself, that will help her become stronger, and adapt to the major changes in her life and move on.

I am really enjoying Patricia Sand’s books. They are quite remarkable, and really do have you hooked from page one. I really liked Katherine and admired her strength and dedication to finding it within herself, to pull herself back up from such an awful situation she finds herself in. It is a book about moving on from the past and new beginnings. I also have to mention how wonderful and different the endings are to Patricia’s books.

So why not take time out of your own life and take a trip to Provence? All for the price of a book!

4.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable holiday reading 3 Nov 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
A good storyline, although a bit predictable. Nevertheless I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Having holidayed in this area of Provence almost every year for the past 25 years I know it quite well but still made a note of some places to visit and sights to see on my next visit.

5.0 out of 5 stars I want to go to Provence! 21 Mar 2014
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I enjoyed reading this book and love that it is what might be described as ‘cross-genre’. In other words it is many things full of surprises: a travelogue with the most vivid, sensuous and informative descriptions that make me itch to get to the South of France NOW; a study of a broken relationship; a sober reflection on man’s inhumanity to man; and finally a mature romance where I wanted nothing more than for Katherine to find true love with the right man!!
It evoked the culture of France that we have enjoyed as a family; the fresh bread; long lunches; market stalls; old bike rides and a thorough study of cheese and wine. And yes, I did dig out my old books by Peter Mayle, too!
It took Katherine a while to get to France - but it was worth the wait and this delay did not stop me giving it five stars. Looking forward to the sequel.

5.0 out of 5 stars If you love France, you'll love this book 31 July 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I was drawn to this book by the title initially as I love France and Provence in particular. This book delivered far more than I could have expected. To begin with the setting is Toronto in Canada, which immediately made me want to visit. I immediately identified with Kat, whose life changes dramatically and unexpectedly when she is in her fifties.
Alongside a romance, there is the story of Kat’s parents and their escape from Hungary. It is also a story of coping with change and moving on. As Kat’s mother frequently reminds her, ’What doesn’t kill you, makes you stronger.’ This is also true for Kat’s friend.
I loved the idea of Kat making her dreams happen and the descriptions of the Cote d’Azur are spot on. In fact, I relived many happy times as the evocative language, scents and food were delightful.
There is nothing about this story that didn’t appeal, romance, the South of France, and a lovely dog too.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice summer time read for me 12 April 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
The Promise of Provence: A Novel by Patricia Sands
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

A 4 star rating from me means: I liked this book.

I liked the fact that I'm reading about a 55 year old lady that has circumstances thrown upon her, life changing events in the middle of your life. I am that age now. I could relate to the anguish, troubles and emotions that she went through when her marriage broke up. My marriage hasn't, been married for 30+ years, I mean in the age, mature bracket.

However, like in any age we can be irrational.

Looking after her Mother she became her carer, so a totally different life change.
The wide sweep of Paris was informative to me as I've never been. The second half of the book was what did it for me, as it paced up a bit more which meant I didn't want to leave the book until I'd finished it.

I would class this personally as a nice summer read.
