Debbie Wiseman's soundtrack to The Promise is fantastic. Some of the tracks feature the orchestra exclusively, some feature middle eastern instruments entirely with specific emphasis on the woodwind and percussive sections, and some feature a mixture of the two. There were also some rather nice piano cues in several of the tracks - for those of you who like those sections you might like to check out Javier Navarrete's fantatsic soundtrack for
Navarrete - Pan's Labyrinth - OST as this did remind me of that. But back to The Promise. None of the main themes were particularly memorable, however the superb recording quality, orchestrations and quality of the music as presented over the whole album more than made up for this. I personally found the album to be stronger at either end, with the middle portion of the album seeming to lag a little.
Overall, a solid 4* score, but it did start to sound a little repetitive by the end. I am normally in favour of longer releases, and at 74 minutes, you do get your money's worth. I can't help but feel though that a shorter release would have made for a better listening experience. If you liked the score within the show though, I am sure this release will tick all the right boxes!
