And so here we have it, the 19th single from Britain's fave girl band - the first to be taken from their 5th studio album. And i'm pleased to say that The Promise is a pure winner of a track. I loved it from the first time i heard it and it has grown on me more and more since then, swiftly taking it's place as one of my fave singles of theirs already.

It's charm revolves around in instantly catchy hook of the kind Girls Aloud have always been the masters of devliering time and time again. This time though it takes the form of a deliciously retro 70s disco-esque number that oozes class and a dreamy lovliness. The Girls are on top form vocally here, all them getting their moment to shine. Add all this to the wonderful video for the track and it just serves to remind me why i love Girls Aloud so much. A true gem of a song and an extremely promising taster for the new album.

And as for the b-side, as any fan will tell you, this is an area that Girls Aloud have excelled in throughout their career and 'She' represents one of their best b-sides to date. Seeing the Girls return to their classic electro tinged pop-rock sound it's snappy, instant pop fun and well worth getting your hands on.

Track Listing:

1. The Promise
2. She

Given Cheryl Cole's elevation to Princess Di status( Wronged woman , common touch , beautiful , sucker for a sob story ) there really is no escaping Girls Aloud and especially their 19th single The Promise. First time I heard I didn't like it. Second time I heard it I didn't like ...third time I heard it I thought hhhmmmm this is growing on me and then I watched their ( vocally ropey) performance on "X Factor" and I realised that the girls had once again provided us with a classic pop single. Apologies for my tardiness here but i,ve been distracted.
Like all truly great pop songs The Promise has a hook that wraps itself round your cerebellum like a pneumatic python . The song has a luscious 60,s retro tinge , rather like Duffy , but The Promise is more subtle and gives it a contemporary soul twist . It really is cleverly done . The harmonies are terrific and there is a quite audacious but brilliant key change that elevates the song into territory that most modern pop music wouldn't dare contemplate and even if they did wouldn't have the nous to pull off.
I doubt the girls themselves are responsible for this but never the less the package , and by that I mean the band , the writers and the production team, make Girls Aloud just about the only modern pop group worth bothering with. The b- side "She " is pretty good as well .
They look great , sound great ( recorded anyway ) and even if they can't cut it vocally live they are still coiffured head and shapely shoulders above anyone else .Some may rue The Promise eschewing the vigour and energy of some of their earlier work but this is all things considered classier fare. Cheryl may not be able to hold a candle to some of the girls she is mentoring in X Factor ( Laura and Alex especially ) in respect to vocals but I very much doubt any of them will ever produce anything as good as The Promise.

This song is absolutely fantastic. It has something really special, its very catchy and I love the 60's vibe it has. I don't know what it is but this song makes me cry, the lyrics and passion in it I think :o) I really love it. Also I really love Sarah Harding's voice on the track I forgot what a FAB singer she is.!! Girls Aloud have come such a long way they have released some fabulous songs and they are easily the best girl band around....no-one comes close to them!!

The girls are back with another catchy tune and a fantastic video to match anyway the promise is not to what you would expect from girls aloud it's a different sound very 60s nothing like all the their other hits they've have had but it's still a great song if you've like all their other songs you'll like this the promise is from their new album out of control this song is pop perfection!

1 The Promise (Radio Edit) 10/10
2 She 8/10

If you love girls aloud you gotta buy this if you have Out of Control get this for the b-side.

This is a cracking song - the best one Girls Aloud ever did. It has a bit of a Motown/60s girl group vibe, and has the ebst vocals ever recorded by the group. It's no wonder it went straight in at no 1.

The sad thing is, Girls Aloud never matched this song before or since.

Not being a huge fan, I should tread carefully. However, fair play, to many this was their classiest offering. Maybe different from their many previous singles, but with a energetic and catchy chorus with a really feel good factor to it. Does it for me.
