The complete series 1-4 of the classic 1970s crime series. Bodie (Lewis Collins) and Doyle (Martin Shaw) are two elite officers in the secretive CI5 service, a unit staffed by expert policemen, soldiers and special forces, with the remit of combating terrorism and high-profile crime. The relationship between tough ex-SAS man Bodie and the more liberal-minded Doyle often becomes strained during cases, but their commander, George Cowley (Gordon Jackson), sees potential in the relationship and keeps the two men together. Season One episodes are: 'Private Madness, Public Danger', 'The Female Factor', 'Old Dog With New Tricks', 'Killer With a Long Arm', 'Heroes', 'Where the Jungle Ends', 'Close Quarters', 'Everest Was Also Conquered', 'When the Heat Cools Off', 'Stakeout', 'Long Shot', 'Look After Annie', 'Klansmen' and 'Rogue'. Season Two episodes are: 'Hunter/Hunted', 'The Rack', 'First Night', 'Man Without a Past', 'In the Public Interest', 'Rogue', 'Not a Very Civil Civil Servant', 'A Stirring of Dust', 'Blind Run' and 'Fall Girl'. Season Three episodes are: 'The Purging of CI5', 'Backtrack', 'Stopover', 'Dead Reckoning', 'The Madness of Mickey Hamilton', 'A Hiding to Nothing', 'Runner' and 'Servant of Two Masters'. Season Four episodes are: 'It's Only a Beautiful Picture', 'Blood Sports', 'Hijack', 'You'll Be Alright', 'Kickback', 'Discovered in a Graveyard', 'Foxhole On the Roof', 'Operation Susie', 'The Ojuka Situation', 'The Untouchables', 'Cry Wolf', 'A Man Called Quinn', 'Lawson's Last Stand', 'No Stone' and 'Spy Probe'.

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Here we have the complete 57 episodes of the Professionals, starring Martin Shaw, Lewis Collins and Gordon Jackson as Doyle, Bodie and their Machiavellian boss Cowley.

If you're looking at this page you probably know what the series is about. A show famous for its tough story lines, tougher heroes, fast car chases and plenty of action. All of it is presented here across 16 disks.

Episodes are all presented in original 4:3 aspect ratio, with mono sound. The remastering is acceptable, and the picture is as good as a TV series from that era can be. Importantly, several violent scenes usually cut for broadcast are restored, and the controversial episode Klansmen is included.

There are no extras, and the series are presented in thin card cases, which feel a little cheap. For the price being asked these are minor quibbles. An excellent value for money presentation, a great way to get your hands on this iconic British series!

The Professionals Complete Boxset - REPACK [DVD]

Just a brief review of the packaging of this set. No extras in this set, so if you want them you will need to go for the older sets. Personally I wasn't bothered, I just wanted every episode and uncut and this set has given me that.

Wasn't sure how big this set was, but hoped it would be small judging by the REPACK in the title and thankfully it is small.

It's four standard dvd cases in an outer card box, so that tells you exactly how wide it is. One case for each of the four series, with four discs in each.

You get the episode titles at the bottom on the back of the case plus ones with brief description included on the reverse of the cover underneath the dvds. Anyone who owns a fair amount of Network releases will know exactly what I mean. Similar, but without the the original airdates. There is no end of part one/two etc. though like you get with Network releases, which is a shame as I prefer them to be included.

EDIT: I paid £33.00 for this set brand new including postage, so that's £8.25 a series. Have just looked at some of the individual series releases though and noticed that these below I have put links too look exactly the same as the ones in my complete REPACK set, so I assume that they are. If so, then the only difference is the outer card box. Just thought it was worth mentioning for anyone not bothered about the outer box and looking for cheaper new or used copies.

What a steal this box set is, getting every episode of this classic series.

If you have seen The Professionals already, you know what you are getting - and these remastered discs present the episodes well with good sound and vision. Also included are some fun but relatively insubstantial extras, viewable as clunky page by page script, but interesting nonetheless, for the most part comprising 'where are they now' profiles of some of the many well known British actors who cameoed on the series.

If you have never seen the professionals, what a great way to start! Fasten your seatbelts for the duo who are taken into CI5 - a group who investigate terrorism and other national crimes, under the watchful eye of their mentor and boss, the Glaswegian Cowlie.

The chemistry between the cast is great, the scenes cutting edge for their time, and except for the cars and the fashions, the scripts and plots have hardly dated - the ideas are still as fresh as ever, especially in the later series where the characters of our heroes were explored more and more.

A Worthy box set for any collector of British TV, and for anyone who enjoys quality TV - dont be put off by the age, this is surprisingly fresh thanks to the talent involved.

The Professionals was a hugely successful show here in Germany, my brothers and I watched it religiously and I was madly in love with William Bodie. I've been looking for the Complete Collection for quite some time and was overjoyed to find it here on amazon.co.uk. And I was even more overjoyed to find the show is fun to watch. Granted, it's politically incorrect, sexist and violent, and thank God for that. Germany tends to air mainly US shows that all look the same, with actors so sleak and stereotyped that you cannot tell them apart anymore, it's a physical relief to watch a show that is entertaining with characters that are larger than life but more realistic and more lifelike than most nowaday models-play-cop.

Enough has been said about the technicalities, resolution quality, missing specials etc. You should be aware it's a 70s/80s series that was not shot digitally, and although I too was a little sorry about not having any interviews etc., I am happy enough just being with Bodie & Doyle again :-)
