Book Description

20 Feb 2012 050051609X 978-0500516096
In recent years, vintage handkerchiefs have been an unsung source of inspiration for many of the worlds most exciting brands. This volume written by vintage clothing and textiles expert Nicky Albrechtsen, will appeal to collectors of printed textiles, fashion lovers and designers, and provide a visual feast for anyone with a passion for pattern. Over 200 beautifully designed handkerchiefs have been selected to reflect the magnificent array of printed designs that emerged between the 1920s and 1950s, a particularly innovative period in handkerchief design that produced small squares exploding with colour and pattern. The book comes complete with a short history of the subject, an analysis of the fabrics used, a detailing of the design characteristics of each decade, information on where to find and collect, and advice on conservation, storage and use. Organized for inspiration into 11 sections by colour, this is a fresh and covetable volume targeted at fashion professionals, designers, or a new young generation in search of old chic in new chic forms. Nicky Albrechtsen is also the co-author of the acclaimed Scarves (ISBN 978 0 500 515648).

3.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing 9 Oct 2012
By Fisher
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
Whilst the illustrations are lovely there is no information with them apart from a few with the very, very small amount of written information in this book.
More of a general overview book than a reference book. perhaps the author may consider producing an index online so we can look at our hankies, match with a photo and identify what we have?

4.0 out of 5 stars Printed squares 23 Sep 2012
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
The pictues are excellent and well produced, colourwise (I know ,as I have some of the hankies pictured), but it would have been better if more design, style and history information had been included. Not sure that categorising them in colour rather than style and period is a good idea. But I do love it, all the same.
