This version of The Princess and the Pea is a lot of fun, with witty text and ideas and playful illustrations (the pea theme wanders throughout the pages so that it even appears at breakfast!). The flaps are a laugh, too - I won't reveal them here as some of them are a real joy to discover the first time. For the most part, the story follows the traditional tale although the prince and princess don't marry at the end - they simply become very good friends and have a wonderful time playing together.

My two-year old daughter loves this book and will sit and "read" the story to herself over and over. It's also a favourite choice for her older cousins to read to her.

A briliant retelling of the princess and the pea from a delightful series. The narrative is pitched at the right level to read to a class (Reception) as part of a topic on traditional tales. Love it!

'The Princess And The Pea' is one of those books that is truly a fairy tale. Most children love this tale and the book brings out a great deal of conversation.

A prince is searching for his true princess. One of his tests to ascertain if the princess is indeed real, is to place a small pea under a mattress and then add 20 mattresses on top. If a young woman can feel the pea, than, she is, indeed, a princess. Princess wanna be's come and go , until the real one is found. My granddaughter loves this story and likes to hear about all the mattresses that are laid upon a single pea. Many questions are asked about the pea, mattresses, princes and princesses. It is good to discuss this is a fairy tale and is not true.

The illustrations are bright and colorful. Vivid pictures jump off the page, the prince, the princess and the mattresses come alive. The writing is the fairy tale from yore, the ones we remember as children.

Recommended. prisrob 12-11-13

A lovely book for a 4 year old, a bit more grown up as it isn't thick board pages. My daughter still likes flaps so it's great.

I think this book is charming. My daughter loves it and it manages to amuse any adult who reads it too. The Prince doesn't make the usual announcement that he'll marry the Princess of his choosing as frustratingly, most fairy tale Princes do. I found the gentle modern take on the story refreshing and recommend this lovely book as a perfect gift.

Was more excited about this than the little girl I bought it for was... thought the opening parts and secret "pop ups" would be a bit more creative and interesting..... it wasn't very expensive so maybe I need to pay more for that sort of thing... Book was in good condition

Another classic fairy tale, retold for the modern world. I was not that keen on the illustrations, to be honest, but I do like the story as I'm a bit sensitive like this Princess !. My grand - daughter's main interest is in the flaps, which always go down well with her !

I work with school children who have difficulty with reading and these books are colourful, the words are easy to understand and are not crowded on each page but the fact that they have flaps keeps the children interested right to the very last page.
