About the Author

George MacDonald (10 December 1824 – 18 September 1905) was a Scottish author, poet, and Christian minister. MacDonald was a prolific novelist. He is now known particularly for his poignant fairy tales and fantasy works, and their influence on later authors, such as W. H. Auden, C. S. Lewis, E. Nesbit and Madeleine L'Engle.[1] C. S. Lewis wrote that he regarded MacDonald as his "master": "Picking up a copy of Phantastes one day at a train-station bookstall, I began to read. A few hours later," said Lewis, "I knew that I had crossed a great frontier." G. K. Chesterton cited The Princess and the Goblin as a book that had "made a difference to my whole existence." --This text refers to an alternate Paperback edition.

Beautiful illustrations for Kindle Children's book. 16 Jun. 2012
By Anna - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
This book is easy to read and understand for Children ages 5 to 10. It is a joy to read to my child and she likes looking at the beautiful illustrations. As my child gets older she will be able to read it to me.

Engaging for both children and parents 27 July 2012

When I purchased this book, I expected it to entertain my children. It was a pleasant surprise, however, that I was also drawn into the story.

While it is the nature of children's stories to be somewhat predictable with plot, I found myself pulled into the adventures of Princess Irene in her discovery of the world and its darker depths.

I recommend this book to anyone with children. You will truly enjoy your time reading together.

I love the story and have read all of George MacDonald 11 Aug. 2014

I love the story and have read all of George MacDonald, whom I love. My review is of this edition. It simply was poor quality with limited illustrations. I hoped the inside looked as good as the cover, but alas, it didn't. I will continue to look for a great illustrated copy.
Beautiful, exciting adventure to share with our children and grand children, adults will love it too. 29 Aug. 2014

Intriguing book that is a great book for parents to read to their children before bed. The adventure is a beautiful way to teach that although we may not always believe or feel like we are being watched over by God, the great "I Am" is there always there to protect us. You must have faith to believe and to see. This book reminded me of C.S. Lewis' Chronicles of Narnia.
great read with virtuous characters 27 Nov. 2014

We read this book as part of Angelicum Academy's 3rd grade Good Books Program. My two sons ages 10 and 8 and I read the book and we all enjoyed it. My boys loved the action parts of fighting the goblins and I appreciated the clear distinction between good and evil and the virtuous nature of the characters. Would definitely recommend!
