Biography

Fruupp was the brainchild of Vincent McCusker, guitarist extraordinaire, songwriter and vocals, and a native of Maghera, Northern Ireland. Vince had been a member of The Blues by Five - an R&B group who performed mostly on the famous Irish-Showband, ballroom circuit. There weren't really a lot of other places to play in Ireland at that point so Vince's idea was to form a progressive group and… Read more in Amazon's Fruupp Store

Elves beckon here, no mistake. A first-time reissue of the catalogue of a symphonic Classics-meet-Celts act from Northern Ireland that put the P in progressive reaches a creative high on 1974's The Prince of Heaven's Eyes. Based on a short story about a feller called Mud Flanigan's search for the end of the rainbow (well, it's 70s prog) by band manager and booklet writer Paul Charles, it's a consistently entertaining romp. Lead guitar and keyboards led with strings in abundance, it's a concept album and as such has the narrative drive to retain the cohesion missing from other elements of the band's catalogue. `Annie Austere', `Prince of Heaven' and `The Perfect Wish' stand out and Esoteric (not Visionary as listed here) have re-produced the little book that came with the original LP. A commendable package, with bonus tracks - Prince is their crowning glory.

Frupp CD 2 Jan 2011

My husband had this on vinyl when we were a young courting couple over 30 years ago. It was one of our favourites but over the years we were unable to play it. We have both searched over the years for it unsuccessfully, so you can imagine my delight when I found it on Amazon. I was able to purchase a set of 3 all by the same band all which arrived quickly despite the bad weather and in good condition. He was absolutely delighted on Christmas morning as was I when we listened to the fairy like Irish music. Thank you so much for reuniting us with this brilliant band.

This might be the best never-heard-of album ever made. Fruupp made 4 albums and this is by far their best. The only downside is their singer. He is tolerable but hardly a Peter Gabriel. But never mind, this is great stuff anyway. A real classic in the 1970's Genesis style!
