Product Description

Review

‘Prince Charles has a dry sense of humour – and he’ll probably have a good chuckle at a new book of spoof letters’ (The Weekly News )

‘Witty and irreverent peek at the (Charles') innermost thoughts’ (Choice magazine )

Review

‘It is very clear to me that David Stubbs has either been sneaking around the bins at Clarence House, Birkhall and Highgrove, gathering up the shredded documents and discarded carbons, or else he has he has simply channelled His Royal Highness Prince Charles like spirit medium Doris Stokes channelled the voices of the dear departed. Read this book. Laugh like hell. Decide for yourselves. Personally, I think it is far too good to be a spoof.’ Roger Lewis, author of The Life & Death of Peter Sellers and Seasonal Suicide Notes.

Priceless! 5 Dec 2011
Format:Hardcover
This is brilliantly written and very, very funny.
Hard to pick a favourite letter, but I particularly love the chapters titled 'The Beat Musicians' and 'Leaders of Britain (For A Short While)'. The letters to Thatcher and Cameron are priceless, as is the 'who are you and just why are you famous?' letter to Michael McIntyre in the 'Hoofers...' chapter. Not to mention the Julian Clary letter... Like, I say, hard to choose a favourite - every one a winner, frankly!
Read it with HRH's voice in your head for maximum effect. All of my loved ones (who are deemed worthy of it) will be getting this for Christmas, and so should all of yours.

Lampooning famous figures and mind-buggering pop culture with any kind of warmth and originality isn't easy but full forelock tug to author David Stubbs for somehow pulling it off. Off-kilter and charming, it's like a cutaway of the last 50 years examined through the steamed-up monocle of the bamboozled royal. From chiming in suggestions to Motown Records to (bizarrely touching) missives to the surrogate mother figure of Corrie's Emily Bishop, these pages had me cackling. Great find as it's as funny as they come, beautifully crafted and savagely funny. Great find.
