Book Description

John Copeland is due to retire but which of his three children should take over the company? He sets them a challenge giving each of them £20,000. The one who can demonstrate the shrewdest business acumen and make the biggest profit will become his successor.
His middle son Alex embarks on an audacious scheme to make money from religion. What could be easier he reasons. All he needs is a charismatic preacher to spout some philosophy and perform a few phoney miracles and the donations will come pouring in. He employs an actor to take the part of a religious leader but it soon becomes apparent that he isn’t the compliant employee that Alex was hoping for. Before long he is calling the shots and has taken over the challenge. Events spiral out of control and Alex’s comfortable existence rapidly disintegrates. As he loses everything he values, he finds himself stuck in a nightmare where no one is who they claim to be.
As the preacher’s amazing miracles become ever more difficult to explain, Alex wonders if he is going mad. Is he working with God, the Devil or a clever and unscrupulous con artist following his own twisted agenda?

More About the Author

Look out for the new book, Death Watcher, now available to download.

It recently came to my attention that an earlier edition of Sniper, one that hadn't been properly proof read, had been inadvertently uploaded. This error has now been corrected. I apologise sincerely to anyone who purchased this version of the book and hope that it didn't interfere with your reading enjoyment. Karla.

About the author
Karla Forbes first began writing books when she was twelve years old. Heavily influenced by Ian Fleming, she wrote about guns, fast cars and spies. Naturally, she knew nothing of her chosen subject and was forced to use her imagination to make it up as she went along. These books, half a dozen in total, ended up being thrown out with the rubbish. Several years later, she dabbled in a futuristic sitcom and a full length horror story. Although both of these efforts were also consigned to literary oblivion, at least no one could have accused her of being in a genre rut.
She began writing properly more than ten years ago and her first book, The Preacher was published on Amazon in July 2011. Nine books in total are available to download from the Amazon kindle book store. Other books will follow at regular intervals. She writes about ordinary people who find themselves in extraordinary situations and she aims for unusual but scarily believable plots with a surprising twist.
She lives in Sussex with her husband and bull mastiff and has discovered that the secret of keeping them both happy is regular meals, praise and affection. They split their time between the UK and Germany where their favourite haunts are the Harz mountains and Bavaria.
Karla loves receiving your feedback so if you have the time, please email her via the website or place a review on the Amazon Kindle bookstore.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Preacher 27 July 2011
By Jorge
Format:Kindle Edition
Although this wouldn't usually be something i'd go for, i'm really glad i decided to give it a try. I was involved immediately i started reading, and found it difficult tearing myself away when other things took priority. An unusual story, intelligently written, with a sprinkling of wry humour throughout. I heartily recomend men & women alike give this a try - it will not disappoint!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Read 27 Dec. 2011
By Jessam
Format:Kindle Edition
I met the author by chance and was given a flyer. The Preacher was not my usual read, but once downloaded I could not put it down. The local area and the many story threads held me to the very end. The Preacher has stayed with me beyond the finished read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another great read from Karla Forbes 17 Dec. 2012
By Steve
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I think this is where the Kindle has been a revelation for me...if I'd never got one I would never have even looked at books by Karla Forbes.

I've now read all of her books and can honestly say that they're all great (especially at 98p!), all very well written and keep you on the edge of your seat.

The Preacher is up there with the best of them, give it a go, you're really missing out if you don't.

5.0 out of 5 stars An enjoyable and intriguing read ... 28 Feb. 2012
By Author
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I really enjoyed this book and from page one, couldn't wait to pick up my Kindle and start reading as often as time permitted. The subject matter is interesting and the preacher himself is a well drawn character. Some of the other characters are a little weak but it didn't matter ~ in fact I suspect it is a ploy on the part of the author to persuade the reader to focus on the protagonist. I like the fact that the Preacher is never quite explained so you do have to make up your own mind as to who or what he is, and what you believe.
I didn't hesitate in giving this novel 5 stars and would definitely buy more books by the same author.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Preacher 24 July 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
This is a mystery with a twist. Karla holds the reader right to the end. Her delivery is pacy, exciting and page-turning. An original story that leaves you wondering who the Preacher really is.

Read it. You won't be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars A brilliant read 7 July 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This is one of the best books that I have read in a long time - and I am an extensive reader. It is written in a style that will appeal to both male and female readers. The author obviously has a vivid imagination which she is able to readily transmit through the written word into a book which draws you in and draws you on to the extent that you really do not want to put it down until the last page has been read. The characters are beautifully portrayed and, importantly, believable. The style of writing is easy on the eye and the mind, making it a real page turner and ideal airport/holiday/commute reading. There are so many twists in the plot that there is no way of working out the final outcome and all the way through the question persists - is this the devil or God? A superb book which deserves wide recognition. I sincerely hope we see much more from this author.

5.0 out of 5 stars really good
This one kept me guessing form the start, a very strange story line that the reader is never sure how it will end up.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not what I expected
Wasn't sure to start with, stuck with it and it proved an enjoyable read, a couple of the characters were stereotyped and slightly predictable ending.

5.0 out of 5 stars Compelling
A great story, I thought it would be just another weak story line. But I was pleasantly surprised at the complexity of the characters, I could not put it down.
