Clear and well-written descriptions of how to spin the vegetable fibres. Most handspinners first spin wool, and nowadays usually processed into clean and tidy tops or rovings rather than as raw fleece. Stephenie takes us through the myths that non-wool fibres are hard to spin (especially the one about cotton) and is very clear as to the processes involved in each one.

Various tools are covered in depth (types of wheels and spindles), different yarns that can be produced from the same fibre in different ways, and each case is well described and beaitufully illustrated.

Stephenie is regarded as one of the foremost hand-spinners of her generation, and the reason for this shines through the entire book.

Highly recommended book giving detailed information about spinning with plant fibres. I learnt to spin with cotton, flax and hemp. I wish I had read this book first. I didn't actually find it difficult to use plants fibres but it would have been much easier if I had read this book first. Some of the ebooks for sale are sadly lacking in depth and information. This is not one of them. Very easy to read and understand but loaded with useful facts. Thank you Stephenie.

Excellant book, just what I needed as I am researching weaving with flax and there is very little on the subject. Easily explained and illustrated.

HASH(0x97dc2e58) out of 5 stars Very Clear instructions 19 May 2014

Stephenie makes the bast fiber spinning very much clearer than anything I have read before. I have taken classes in spinning these fibers, and she makes some of the confusion remaining clear up. Now just to practice, practice, practice.

Can't wait for the next book in the series.

Plant fibers can be a challenge for me. There was a point where I considered cotton to be impossible. No more. Thanks to Stephenie, and her clear, concise and always helpful guidance, I now have almost enough cotton finely spun for a wedding hanky, and I did it while watching TV in the evenings!
