Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

Ekhart Tolle's message is simple: living in the now is the truest path to happiness and enlightenment. And while this message may not seem stunningly original or fresh, Tolle's clear writing, supportive voice and enthusiasm make this an excellent manual for anyone who's ever wondered what exactly "living in the now" means. Foremost, Tolle is a world-class teacher, able to explain complicated concepts in concrete language. More importantly, within a chapter of reading this book, readers are already holding the world in a different container--more conscious of how thoughts and emotions get in the way of their ability to live in genuine peace and happiness.

Tolle packs a lot of information and inspirational ideas into The Power of Now. (Topics include the source of Chi, enlightened relationships, creative use of the mind, impermanence and the cycle of life.) Thankfully, he's added markers that symbolise "break time". This is when readers should close the book and mull over what they just read. As a result, The Power of Now reads like the highly acclaimed A Course in Miracles--a spiritual guidebook that has the potential to inspire just as many study groups and change just as many lives for the better. --Gail Hudson

Review

'In the Power of Now, author-sage Eckhart Tolle uses words to guide readers beyond words. Pointing to the portals of the eternal present, this practical mystic's modern gospel offers transcendent truths that set us free.' (Dan Millman, author of Everyday Enlightenment and )

'One of the best books to come along in years. Every sentence rings with truth and power - the power to bring you into the gap, the space between our thoughts, where we find, as Eckhart so beautifully puts it, deep sernity, a stillness, a sacred Presence. This is a book to cherish.' (Deepak Chopra )

'The Power of Now can transform your thinking. The result? More joy, right now.' (O: The Oprah Magazine )

This is possibly the most powerful and insightful book on spirituality ever written. The most amazing thing about it is its clarity - its account of the workings of the human minds is truly stunning. Like no other book I've read, it has an enlightening effect as you read it - you can feel the clarity and insight spreading to you. There are very few people who are both very intelligent and analytical at the same as being spiritually awakened, but Eckhart is one of them. He has the intellectual insight of a psychologist, and uses it to describe the functioning of our normal unenlightened state, and to show how we can 'unpick' this and return to our natural state of enlightenment. And once you finish the book you feel that you've gained a taste of this state. A book which should be read alongside this is Steve Taylor's fantastic Waking From Sleep, which Eckhart describes as 'one of the best books on spiritual awakening I have ever come across.' Waking From Sleep: Why Awakening Experiences Occur and How to Make them Permanent

I realise that what I'm saying is just repeating what others have already said, but I'm going to say it anyway! This book is amazing! It's challenging, thought-provoking, insightful etc etc but, much more than this - it hits you right between the eyes! (Could that be on the third eye, I wonder?)
I bought the book a few weeks ago and am now on my second reading of it. I am working on putting what I'm learning into practice, alongside meditation & other spiritual studying; it's bringing it all together into one coherent whole and I'm very pleased to have finally found this book. Don't get me wrong, it's not an easy read by any means in that the author doesn't pussy-foot around. He's telling us his truth and fires it like an arrow. I don't accept everything he says, and I'm sure he wouldn't want that anyway. This is a book that asks - insists even - you don't accept, but DO act. There's an urgency that comes across that I've responded to; it's NOW or never.

I bought this after it was mentioned in a review in psychologies magazine. It sounded like the answer to my prayers! Having lived for most my life under the harsh reign of my anxious, un-checked mind, this book promised to be a simple and powerful tool. I am happy to say that I have not been disappointed! This book is very easy to read and work with, and I have been pretty much anxious-free since I picked it up. I can't say it's easy, a life-time habit of thought pattern is hard to let go, especially when interacting with others. But with practise I can see the benefits will be priceless. To be mindful is the key to happiness, and although this has been taught since the beginning, it has become slightly accessorised with the tastes of various enlightened souls. Tolle's book is as simple and unfettered as it gets - it agrees with the essence of all our world religions but pulls back the heavy curtains to reveal the one truth that we all need to be. Once this has been accomplished everything else just falls into place!
Since I began reading this book my life has dramatically improved. I no longer require alcohol to socialise or relax, I see the beauty in everything and this gives me an endless supply of joy. My relationships are so calm and easy, my creativity has sky-rocketed and I feel relaxed and happy all the time. No sleepless nights or churning stomach. I will be buying this book for all my loved-ones because I want them to experience life like this too.
