While it first premiered on British TV screens fifteen years ago, The Politician s Wife is as compelling, gripping and shockingly true in its political and social impact as it ever was. The Tory Minister of the Family, Duncan Matlock - embroiled in a sensitive policy plan to cut Child Benefits - has been caught having an affair, and the last to know is his devoted wife Flora. To her, it is a body blow, not only for her husband s infidelity, but the way in which a swirling sea of Conservative men around her are not only aware of the affair but are only concerned with damage control. They are anxious to buoy her up for the good of the party while inside she is drowning alone. But not for long. One of Duncan s aides considers it vital that the truth be told, and once Flora is acquainted with the truth, she continues to play the hand she has been dealt, whilst secretly playing a game of her own. The sordid truth and the depths of his betrayal emerge hardening her resolve. For the politician s wife, there may be more than one victim but when the time is right, there will be only one victor.

A gripping turn-of-events political drama from the 90s when Channel 4 seemed to be churning out quality drama series. Superb performances from Trevor Eve and Juliet Stevenson who, even with an incredible script, just add a whole other dimension to the show. Bonus points for casting Minnie Driver in the pivotal supporting role - one of my favourite actresses. If you dont believe me when I say how cool this show is, the DVD itself plugs the awards it won at the time

This is an outstanding production. I first saw it on TV and am now delighted to have my own DVD of it. An added bonus is that, since Trevor Eaves is one of my least favourite actors, it was inspiring to see him getting bested by the brilliant Juliet Stevenson at every turn. One gets the impression that the storyline is very close to how politics actually operates. Indeed, we have only to reflect on the misdemeanours of real life politicians to realise how realistic this production is. All the acting is of a high standard and I thoroughly recommend this dvd.
I remember becoming hooked when this series came out originally, but seeing it once again brought all that back. Yes, it may have become just a little dated now but the performances from Trevor Eve and especially Juliet Stevenson have lost nothing of their impact, for me at least.

Very enjoyable' it was very interesting from the word go and it had a very interesting ending ' enjoyed every minute of it
