This extraordinary book of poetic theology/philosophy was given to me at Christmas 2011 by someone who herself received it as a gift. I will continue giving this book to friends. I will also read it again soon myself. The writer distils a lifetime of study, thought (and, I think, prayer) into a book which helps us to take fresh looks at old truths about humanity and the Judaeo-Christian story. As a person (and parish priest) who has always enjoyed looking at texts and hearing stories obliquely, and who resists the boring and destructive march of fundamentalism in whatever form, here was a book to speak to the heart as well as the mind, to tell the story and find it retold in so many people and places.
