5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic fiction for kids 22 Aug 2009
Format:Paperback
Little Animal Ark books are ideal for children who are independent readers, but not ready for the subject matter of other texts. Our 5 year old daughter lapped up the lovely story and wants to read the entire series (thank goodness for libraries!), her reading skills are advanced for her age and she reads as well as many 7 year olds. Other books she enjoys are Rainbow Magic (likes the story though the text is getting a bit simple and she reads them too fast) and Beast Quest (about her level of reading ability but personally I would prefer a gentler subject matter!).

It's a relief to find a nice fiction series she can enjoy reading to herself (or with me if she wants to), and knowing Lucy Daniels also writes for the slightly older child too with Animal Ark and Dolphin Diaries. A good author to discover.

I am nine years old and like reading books about animals.
Other books I have enjoyed are Timmy in Trouble, Sam the Stolen Puppy and Alfie all Alone by Holly Webb.
But the Little Animal's Ark series is really good.
There are many books to choose from, all with different animals, but Mandy is the main character in them all. Her parents are vets.
I recommend it as a reader for children over 6 if they are confident readers.
It isn't a good picture book to read to younger children as it has no colour pictures.
Overall, it is a great book for girls (and boys) of my age.

I bought this for my daughter who is just 7 and mad about animals, she is reading at a good level at school, but starting to want to read other books, however, most I have looked at are either too simple with no storyline, or the vocab. is too difficult for her to decipher on her own.

Little Animal Ark is perfect, largish print, but gives the feel of a 'Chapter Book', the language is easy to understand, as are most of the words - there were only a couple that she struggled with. At first we read a page each, but a few days later, she came in one morning and said she read it on her own, I was thrilled, as this is hopefully the start of her reading for enjoyment. Now she wants the others, especially the 'mouse' one!

A great introduction to reading for pleasure.
