My 14 year old daughter, a devout Lonnie Donegan fan, fell in love with Rolf after watching many of his song and 'dance' routines on uTube, like Jake the Peg, with the extra leg, The Court Of King Caractacus ... etc. Unlike mum and dad she was less familiar with his songs [and art] as she knew him from Animal Hospital. If Rolf Harris has anything it's cheerful enthusiasm mixed in with not a little talent, plus he simply oozes sincerity and he's pretty impossible not to like. OK many of his songs aren't 'deep' [well other the odd Deep Purple cover], but whats wrong with taking a paddle in the shallows occasionally. Plus some are great Australian folk [e.g. Waltzing Matilda, Tie my Kangaroo down, Six white boomers] - and the kids like his slightly riske lines, e.g. about Mary also having a little bear: 'and everywhere that Mary went, you saw her bear behind...'
For under a tenner this three CD set is superb value, well recorded and well presented. It must have just about every song of note Rolf's recorded, from his 60s Ozzie numbers to the later classic rock covers, and the 54 tracks of music run on for hours. Highly recommended for those young at heart. If you or your family really like Rolf's CD, perhaps try a few others from my daughters CD collection that have a similar feel: 'Burl Ives - A little bitty tear', The Very Best of Bernard Cribbins', and 'Charlie Drake - Hello my darlings'. For the kids [or simply nostalgia], also have a look at 'Hello Children Everywhere! boxed set - various artists'.
