Product Description

Gresham and Eupheme have always fought. So when they see the pathetic, badly-dressed trainspotter it is inevitable they will argue over him. Is he doomed to eternal nerdiness or could he be taught to appreciate finer things? Eupheme bets he can and in time for Gresham's engagement party.

As I am a major Smeghead myself I was deeply touched to see Robert state that his first novel was inspired by us wacky fans. Personally, I found "Platform 5" a wonderfully witty read- and quite a page turner too! I was kept guessing all the way to the last chapter which sister Ian would finally choose. And some of the characters were just lovely- Eddie and Piers were my favourites! I also enjoyed the appearences of Roberts celebrity mates Craig Charles and Nigel Planner, which worked brilliantly! I would say this book is just as good as "Rubber mask", and I will definatly be reading "Sudden wealth" in the near future.

I bought this on impulse, not knowing anything about the author's literary career (I was aware of him in Red Dwarf).

The book was in places exceptionally funny, and also had an unexpected event that I really didn't see coming that shocked me initially, and then made me laugh.

The only problem I had with the book was it appeared to finish halfway through, the story was pretty much complete and you could guess the ending quite easily.

That aside, it was an enjoyable book to read, and was full of comical moments. A couple in particular made me laugh out loud.

If you find bad language offensive I would not read this book however, as the language is somewhat 'ripe' throughout.

This book gets 3 stars. An enjoyable read, but with some flaws.

I would suggest this talking book as much for a fan of Chris Barrie as Robert Llewellyn's books . The amount of different types of of accents Chris can do is incredible. The characterization is really well written by Robert and Chris's ability to do different voices adds to that. I don't know how he can keep track of all the different voices he had to do. The ending is a bit predictable and weak but it is still an excellent story. This is nothing like Red Dwarf; however Robert's characters name in that program --Kryten--is misspelled on the back of the jacket. If you want to be entertained for three hours this is a very good talking book

Amusing - close to the bone funny!

It's not Kryten, folks...
Anyone who's read any of Llewellyn's Red Dwarf books shouldn't expect more of the same! This is a tender-hearted, witty read that I'd place in the chick-lit genre. Read more
