Product Description

The final novel in Christian Jacq's epic four part series about the mysterious Egyptian village, The Place of Truth Nefer the Silent and Paneb the Ardent have worked hard to make The Place of Truth a safe and happy place, where the ancient traditions of the artisans are nurtured, and the secrets of the Pharaohs are guarded. Together with Ubekhet, Nefer's wife, they have succeeded in guiding the people through some of Egypt's most unsettled times. At last, they feel they can relax and carry out the work they were born to do, create masterpieces for the eternal glorification of the Pharaohs. But Mehy has not got over his obsession with the fabulous Stone of Light. His craving for power has not abated, and nor has his vindictiveness against Nefer and everything to do with The Place of Truth...

By A Customer
Format:Paperback
In this fourth and final volume in the Stone of Light series by Christian Jacq Paneb the Ardent, a talented painter, must now fight the evil that lurks at every corner, within in his village. After the Nefer the Silent's murder Paneb the Ardent must now replace him to become the Master of the sacred village of painters and builders. But he has to find one of the villagers who has betrayed everyone throughout the series and ignored the rule of Maat (peace) by which the villagers live by. It is the traitor who has murdered Nefer but will Paneb find him with the help of Nefer's widow the Wise Woman. They must also defend themselves against their greatest enemy who has killed and made deals with the traitor to find the village's most prized possession the Stone of Light. This wonderful stone keeps the pharaoh's strength alive and helps the craftsmen build the pharaohs tombs, it is the village's heart and must be defended by Paneb. It all comes to a head with General Meyh their enemy, so will the village be able to ward off such evil. Paned is also finding troubles closer to home; his son is nearing the point of no return from being expelled from the village.
Also things are not looking to good in the outside world there many disputes as to who will become Pharaoh. This book is action packed so join the craftsmen on their mission to save Maat.

Like the Ramses series before it, The Stone of Light series brings alive the glorious yet perilous times of ancient Egypt. Whether you have an amateur or professional interest in ancient Egypt, you will love the rich description of the scenerey, the complexity of the story which remains gripping throughout all 4 volumes. The characters are so well structured that you find yourself believably drawn into their fate and you can't fail but feel emotion as their lives face glorious ups and downs. I highly rate these books and cannot wait for the next story from this prolific author.

This 4th volume of the Stone of Light series brings the story to a satisfying conclusion.

As with all the books in the series, the style of writing is very episodic - a threat to the Place of Truth emerges and is dealt with before the next threat emerges. This lack of continuity prevents it becoming a "can't put down" book, though the fault isn't as pronounced as in the earlier books in the series.

The other criticism is that the main characters are so strong in spirit as to make them difficult to relate to.

Nonetheless, it is a very enjoyable book and I have found the whole series to be a worthwhile read.
