Product Description

THE PIT STOP (This Stop Could be Life or Death) is a ten-thousand-word mini mystery with a ghostly edge by bestselling romantic-suspense author Carmen DeSousa. If you are looking for her full-length novels, please check out her Amazon author page.

When what seems like a normal pit stop turns to more than just gas and food, a lost couple finds themselves searching for the truth of a twenty-year-old mystery that may cost them their life.

The Pit Stop introduces Detective Mark Waters, who stars in The Depot (When Life and Death Cross Tracks), another free mini-mystery, and then he earned a full role in the novel The Library (Where Life Checks Out).

Note: The Pit Stop was originally published October 2012. While there have been a few updates, this is the original story. Happy reading!

More About the Author

A romantic-suspense writer, my stories overflow with romance, mystery, suspense, a hint of paranormal sometimes, and of course, tragedy. After all, what would a great story be without a tragic event setting the stage? All of my novels are sensual, but not erotic, gripping but not graphic and will make you cry, laugh, love, and hope. Although some of my titles clearly include supernatural or ghostly beings, my writing dances on the edge of the paranormal, in a genre referred to as magical realism. My hope is that as you read my stories, you'll wonder, "Hmmm...what if?"

As most authors, I blame my leap into a full-time career as a professional writer on my love of reading. Reading has always been an escape for me. When life was rough as a child, I could always disappear into a book. But I found something else too... I discovered that writing out my thoughts was healing. Not only could I create hope for my protagonists, but I could do away with the antagonists--legally.

When I penned my first novel, 'She Belongs to Me', I allowed only my cousin and best friend to read it. They are the reason I write. They pushed me to publish, as they felt my stories would give others who've experienced tragedies hope. So now, even though I still write for me, I mainly write for my readers who continually encourage me that my words touched their soul.

Most of my novels share some of my favorite hobbies, mostly, anything to do with the great outdoors. I rarely spend my days off at a movie theatre or the mall. In fact, I hate shopping, and my hubby would prefer to do anything other than take me to a movie that I'd already read the book. :) Also, we both would rather read a book on the beach--or a coffee shop if it's raining--and if the weather is really nice, we love to go kayaking and hiking.

5.0 out of 5 stars Flowed beautifully! 7 Jan 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
Threatened by a recurring dream about his grandparents, Officer Gino felt haunted and unsettled. Then during the daytime unusual things began to happen to him - like hearing someone light a pipe and smelling the odor then finding there was no one there. A guy like him had to follow these suggestions and find out if his grandparent's death twenty years ago was in fact murder. Especially now that apparently another couple has died with the same MO which occurred two states over and mirrored exactly the homicide of his grandparents. This short suspense flowed so well that it swept me into the story from page one and I just sat back, relaxed and thoroughly enjoyed.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Good Read 22 Feb 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Not a long story but a worthwhile read. I enjoyed the mix of reality with that extra ingredient - always a good hook.

I don't give spoilers but I would say give it a try if you like mystery, murder and something more.

mystery with just a hint of paranormal and even a dab of romance. And not bad at all for a free book. I have read a couple of these books now, and they have been quick and easy reads.

4.0 out of 5 stars Worth reading
Quite well written and a good storyline. Might have been better to have a longer story as some of the action had to move a little quickly to fit into the short story model.
