I will be honest, I only bought it having seen a trailer for the film, but I'm glad I did and I will wait to see whether the film is as good as the book! I wasn't sure what to expect a pirates of the carribean style or more captain pugwash?! The pirates themselves don't have names, only descriptions like "the pirate wearing a scarf" or "the albino pirate" but it isn't a problem at all.The main storyline centres around Charles Darwin and how the pirate captain and his men are going to help rescue his brother fom the evil bishop who is holding him hostage in big ben... Ham features quite alot throughout and seems to be their main diet although they do get a lime ration to ward off scurvy... The pirate who didn't like limes so ate green starbursts instead, needless to say died of scurvy! The time spans are a little out on most things given that it is supposedly queen victorias reign I don't think starbursts were around then and if they were they would have been properly named as opal fruits...:-D There are however useful notes at the bottom of the pages in small print pointing facts out like the periodic table was invented after it is said in the story, and various other notes for example that turtles die because floating carrier bags look like jellyfish so they eat them.It is a brilliant book and one I will be trying to convince my friends that it isn't a childrens book and they really should read it. Hopefully the film will bring it to more peoples attention! READ IT, IT WILL MAKE YOU LAUGH !(which is very good for you!)
