Product Description

Flamboyant pirate adventure set in eighteenth century Italy. Captain Sirocco (Louis Hayward), a notorious pirate and leader of a proletarian revolt against an increasingly cruel Neapolitan aristocracy, attacks a ship which turns out to belong to the evil Baron von Holstein (Rudolph Serato), who controls the police and is secretly behind most of the terror wrought on the people.

Product Description

United Kingdom released, PAL/Region 2 DVD: LANGUAGES: English ( Mono ), SPECIAL FEATURES: Black & White, Interactive Menu, Scene Access, SYNOPSIS: A title informs us that the setting is 'Italy, 1798,' specifically a huge ship whose elaborate riggings and sails Ulmer's camera lovingly tracks in a series of breathtaking compositions. But there's something amiss on the ship, which carries both arms and some upper-class snobs. Into this dramatic setting leaps the masked Captain Sirocco (Louis Hayward), a notorious pirate and leader of a proletarian revolt against an increasingly cruel Neapolitan aristocracy. Sirocco and his band attack the ship from rowboats, confiscate the weapons, and terrorize the snobs. Baron von Holstein (Rudolph Serato), who controls the police and is secretly behind most of the terror wrought on the people. The film gracefully follows the romance of Sirocco and Countess de Lopez, Sirocco's attempts to save the queen , and the escalating revolt, captured in dramatic scenes of the storming of an island and, eventually, the royal palace. ...Pirates of Capri ( I Pirati di Capri ) ( Captain Sirocco )

4.0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly Good 7 Sep 2012
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
The surprising things about this movie are the photography, which is excellent, and the script, which is very good. The action sequences are well filmed. Something else of note - a real ship was used and scenes were filmed on board. For what looks initially like a low budget pirate film, this is a great plus. In fact the whole film is a great surprise and well-worth watching.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Pirates Of Capri 28 July 2011
Format:DVD
This is NOT a pirate movie, in that it is about taking a double agent (female) from the Channel Islands to France to learn about Napoleon's attack on England. This is a case of the right people getting the wrong ideas and the wrong people trying to make money from misfortune. Overall, it is more of a comedy, but was enjoyable and well worth looking at. A good old fashion clean movie that has plenty of action and the obligatory happy ending.

I really enjoyed this film very much, even though the film & photography was somewhat ancient, the scenery was great & I understand it was filmed in Italy. I thought Louis Hayward acting was superb as always.
