Interesting view into the scientific mindset
on 12 September 2013
This book focusses on the motivations and trials of a small group of scientists focussing on a problem in spite of institutional challenges and shines a light on the choices agencies such as NASA have to make in these situations, which is unusual. The downsides for me were on the one side not quite feeling the passion of the scientists coming through, while on the other not getting into the technical detail of the problems more. Swinging one way or the other would have made the book more gripping for me but the shorter form writing does mean the book does not feel slow in its pacing. I would encourage those who want to feel some of the excitement of the early deep space probes to look into it.
