David Zeman's first book 'The Pinnochio Syndrome' is a fascinating read and very apt in these times of terrorist threats and political unrest. The book starts with a massive nuclear attack on a US civilian cruise-ship, and follows the government's reaction to the attack.
Politicians in Washington are of course up in arms, and radical politician Colin Goss who would normally be deemed crazy, now seems like a serious contender for President. And on top of everything, a disease named the 'Pinnochio Syndrome' breaks out, causing people to slip into a comatose state, with deformities of their hands and feet.
Up steps a young former Olympic gold medal winner turned politician, Michael Campbell, to save the day for the Americans who want peace. This perfect man with the perfect wife is USA's future and everyone knows it. But as the story unfolds, something is amiss. Michael Campbell seems too good to be true.
For Zeman's first outing, I thought this was excellent reading. It's a tale of conspiracy and disease, and he weaves a brilliantly entertaining tale. If you're looking for a book to read, then definitely take a look at this!
