Book Description

30 Sep 2010 0738213942 978-0738213941
This is a groundbreaking new diet for the overweight breast cancer patient or anyone at risk for the disease, featuring 150 high-nutrient, plant- and olive oil- based recipes, proven effective to help women avoid weight gain healthily. "The Pink Ribbon Diet" features 150 recipes which naturally emphasise foods with nutrients considered to lower risk and foods that improve biomarkers, such as olive oil, vegetables, and certain starches, and omit those foods linked to increased risks. At its core it is the Mediterranean diet, and while not strictly a vegetarian cookbook, readers are encouraged to make protein choices other than meat. Most of the dinner recipes take less than 20 minutes to prepare and have simple steps that even a novice cook can easily master. Recipes include well defined portion sizes as well as suggested substitutions. For those needing more guidance, there are also weekly meal plans. This is not just a collection of recipes, it is a diet plan designed specifically for the overweight breast cancer patient or anyone concerned about developing the disease.

'With Breast Cancer Awareness taking place in October this is a timely book for anyone concerned with, or recovering from breast cancer...The recipes are quick to prepare with simple steps making it ideal for the novice cook. This diet has been proven to be effective in helping women who have had breast cancer and those at risk of getting it.'
--Wellbeing

'Based on her 25 years of research and experience, Dr Mary Flynn has produced a unique programme to tackle breast cancer - for healthy women as well as for those who are recovering from the disease.'

5.0 out of 5 stars Great recipes for all 18 May 2011
Format:Paperback
I borrowed this book from my library a week ago and need to buy my own now, it's so good. I'm not a cancer sufferer but I am always on a diet and I looked at this out of interest towards establishing a healthy eating routine rather than dieting. It does that and provides good evidence to suggest that the 'diet' plan will help the body fight or even prevent cancer. The recipes are so simple and thankfully don't require any fancy ingredients. I had to stock up more on grains and beans to begin with and I'm really pleased that I can still eat cheese! I haven't weighed myself this last week and I don't actually care. I KNOW I'm eating more healthily and sensibly and am confident that with exercise the weight will sort itself out.

4.0 out of 5 stars Metric please 6 Dec 2012
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I am taking off one star because of the way the weights and measures are counted. I found the cups difficult to get right. why not use grams, or if absolutely neccessary go back to the imperial system. Maybe there is a european edition. I am trying to write the recipes out in metric each time I try out a new one but the book will be ruined. The concepts and the menu are easy to follow and we are hoping for some weight loss and increase health. This is not a difficult diet to follow I would say go for it!
