This is a truly great collection of classic Pink Panther cartoons from the 1960's. The cartoons never looked better than this, but sound is better or worse on some cartoons. All the cartoons are presented in widescreen and that means that information IS lost on the cartoons. Another review mentioned there was no loss and widescreen is better, and this might be true with some movies, but you should bear in mind that the original ratio was 4:3, and they didn't make the picture wider, they just cut off the top and bottom of each cartoon to make it appear like widescreen and i deducted one star because of that. In a few early cartoons it is noticeable when the panther is cut off on either the top of the head or the feet. In later cartoons there is a little more space, so it's not as bad there.
I would still recommend to get this collection though, because it still looks great and it's a lot of fun to watch (childhood memories) and 124 cartoons plus almost all of the original pink panther live-action movie intro's (except for the Return of the Pink Panther) are also included in this great set.

It's nice to have the original cartoons released BUT did it have to be in this dummy 16:9 format? The cartoons were produced for television and as another reviewer already stated they were released in the proper format on Laser Disc, which is 4:3 (1,33:1). This edition simply cuts off vertical information, which looks a bit strange sometimes (e.g. the missing feet or top of the head). There is absolutely no reason to release the cartoons in 16:9. MGM did the same with Koyaanisqatsi. Putting black bars over the top and bottom of the picture to get fake widescreen just destroys the original intention of the artists. If you watch carefully you will also notice tight framing in the Pink Panther movie collection, which is quite strange, since they were really filmed in 2,35:1 Panavision. But compared to a 2,35:1 TV screening it was obvious, that the framing is to tight and information is missing everywhere. Bad work from MGM. If no one complains, MGM will continue to release such crap.
5 stars for the cartoons, ZERO for the DVD's.

This is a very complete collection. But it's very bad that
the cartoons are presented as chopped Pan & Scan. It's not
real wide-screen. The top and bottom images are cut out.
I found this because I compared them with the same cartoons
on another DVD (Jet Pink) and the LaserDisc (The Pink Panther
Animation Archive).

Great collection of all the cartoons, apart from the frame clipping problems mentioned by other reviewers (can not see the full frame despite trying all the settings on my reasonably good quality DVD and TV).
BUT I was expecting the Pink Panther show, which means the Inspector cartoons as well . . . truth be told, these were my favourite bit .... and there's not even a mention here.
At least there is the opening sequence to the show, where the boy drives the Panthermobile to Graumann's Chinese theatre and the Panther - and the Inspector! - get out. I always wanted to know how a kid that age got to drive such a cool car!
Still glad I bought it BUT I won't be watching it as often as I anticipated.

The US release (NTSC, region-1) contains 5 DVDs.
But same contents as the UK release (4 DVDs).
The biggest difference is the US release is
shown in the original 4:3 full-frame, not like
the chopped Pan & Scan in the UK release.
I originally bought the UK release. Now I
bought the US release again.

The quality is good, the sound is ok, not the best nor worst.
The chopping of the top and bottom of the screen irritated me, especially since credits, feet and occasionaly parts of heads were missing. Its not correct widescreening.
But overall, the dvd is the complete 124 theatrical cartoons.
Tbh, when it come's to Warner releasing a dvd, I usually roll my eyes and expect the worst, but this is in the middle - ie. Not great and not awful.
It bring's back good memories and happy times.
THe shorts are in good nick and are well presented and have no specks or grains that are widely noticable.
The packaging is good, with a fold out disc holder, a booklet with each episode and it's dating and animation on the disc holder.
Overall, its a good set and worth over $7.

So grab yourself a bargin, and watch over 14 hours of Pink Panther!

Ciao and cheers for reading.

Oh, this is a fantastic and cool dvd set. The age does not matter and pink panther suites everyone! It is great to see all the episodes together in one dvd set and because there are no speaking (some), you can empty your head, relax and just enjoy!

Think of all the animals you've ever heard about
like rhinoc'ruses and tigers cats and mink
There are lots of funny animals in all this world
But have you ever seen a panther that is presented in 16:9?
Think!
A panther that presented in 16:9,
Well here he is, the pink panther,
The rinky-dink panther,
Isn't he a panther ever so pink?
Top of his head is missing from some frames,
and what shame, a shame, what an stupid idea !
He's in the pink - the pink panther
The rinky-dink panther,
and it's as plain as your nose,
that in some frames information is missing from a truly original,
Panther-pink (panther) from head to toes !

This has always been one of my favourite cartoon characters, probably due to the extremely clever storylines. Something unexpected always occurs and leaves me thinking about why I didn't see that coming.

I haven't noticed any problems about the display size. Perhaps it is the way my TV is configured, or maybe I was concentrating so hard on the action I never actually saw anything wrong.
