This is a truly great collection of classic Pink Panther cartoons from the 1960's. The cartoons never looked better than this, but sound is better or worse on some cartoons. All the cartoons are presented in widescreen and that means that information IS lost on the cartoons. Another review mentioned there was no loss and widescreen is better, and this might be true with some movies, but you should bear in mind that the original ratio was 4:3, and they didn't make the picture wider, they just cut off the top and bottom of each cartoon to make it appear like widescreen and i deducted one star because of that. In a few early cartoons it is noticeable when the panther is cut off on either the top of the head or the feet. In later cartoons there is a little more space, so it's not as bad there.
I would still recommend to get this collection though, because it still looks great and it's a lot of fun to watch (childhood memories) and 124 cartoons plus almost all of the original pink panther live-action movie intro's (except for the Return of the Pink Panther) are also included in this great set.

Another MGM mess up 28 Nov 2004
By A Customer
It's nice to have the original cartoons released BUT did it have to be in this dummy 16:9 format? The cartoons were produced for television and as another reviewer already stated they were released in the proper format on Laser Disc, which is 4:3 (1,33:1). This edition simply cuts off vertical information, which looks a bit strange sometimes (e.g. the missing feet or top of the head). There is absolutely no reason to release the cartoons in 16:9. MGM did the same with Koyaanisqatsi. Putting black bars over the top and bottom of the picture to get fake widescreen just destroys the original intention of the artists. If you watch carefully you will also notice tight framing in the Pink Panther movie collection, which is quite strange, since they were really filmed in 2,35:1 Panavision. But compared to a 2,35:1 TV screening it was obvious, that the framing is to tight and information is missing everywhere. Bad work from MGM. If no one complains, MGM will continue to release such crap.
5 stars for the cartoons, ZERO for the DVD's.

Chopped Pan & Scan !! 16 Nov 2004
By shli
This is a very complete collection. But it's very bad that
the cartoons are presented as chopped Pan & Scan. It's not
real wide-screen. The top and bottom images are cut out.
I found this because I compared them with the same cartoons
on another DVD (Jet Pink) and the LaserDisc (The Pink Panther
Animation Archive).

16:9 x 4:3
Can anybody tell me if the American Region 1 Edition of the Panther toons also is in 16:9? Amazon.com states them in 1,33:1. Thank you.
