It's nice to have the original cartoons released BUT did it have to be in this dummy 16:9 format? The cartoons were produced for television and as another reviewer already stated they were released in the proper format on Laser Disc, which is 4:3 (1,33:1). This edition simply cuts off vertical information, which looks a bit strange sometimes (e.g. the missing feet or top of the head). There is absolutely no reason to release the cartoons in 16:9. MGM did the same with Koyaanisqatsi. Putting black bars over the top and bottom of the picture to get fake widescreen just destroys the original intention of the artists. If you watch carefully you will also notice tight framing in the Pink Panther movie collection, which is quite strange, since they were really filmed in 2,35:1 Panavision. But compared to a 2,35:1 TV screening it was obvious, that the framing is to tight and information is missing everywhere. Bad work from MGM. If no one complains, MGM will continue to release such crap.
5 stars for the cartoons, ZERO for the DVD's.
