About the Author

Jo Ferris MCSP (Member of the Society of Chartered Physiotherapists) is a Peak Pilates Instructor and Specialist Physiotherapist in Neurology at St Richards Hospital, Chichester. Jo uses Pilates with patients at the hospital for rehabilitation after injury, to help treat neurological conditions and generally for fitness and wellbeing. Pilates as 'exercise prescription' is seen to empower patients to be responsible for their wellbeing. In her time outside the hospital, Jo runs general Pilates classes, and smaller classes and one-to-ones for clients with health problems.

Jo's combination of Pilates instructor qualifications and experience as a neurological physiotherapist gives her an in-depth understanding of movement and clinical issues, which puts her in an excellent position to deliver authoritative and safe Pilates information to the self-help reader.

Jo lives in Worhing, Sussex.

Needed something to inspire me to practise at home as I have been going to a great class for a while but never feel motivated in between! This is so easy to use but also really detailed. The individual exercises are very clearly explained so you really feel confident to go ahead. I especially like the inclusion of visualisations and of common errors and the photos are a great guide too. My favourite bit is the 10 minute rep drill which is easy to follow and which has helped me kick start practise. I have not found anything else on the market which is as good and I have actually started practising which I never have before. Would recommend this whatever your level of experience.

I bought it for a friend as she was planning to start pilates. I was first surprised by the small size which is very handy for your practice bag or even travelling if you plan exercise elsewhere than at home. I went through it and I like the fact that the positions are well explained and documented but also most importantly by pointing out the main mistakes which should be avoided. I also like the quick 10 mins practice that is given for a daily practice. My friend loved it and already found it very useful to go through it after her first pilates class. I would recommend this to any pilates enthusiast.

This is a great buy if you are practicing Pilates or if you are like myself - training to become a Pilates teacher. Really good illustrations with very easy to follow instructions and variations to each move.
Money well spent and I would definitely recommend if you are looking for a bible to refer to.
