Bea lives in the nowhere town of Elbow, where it rains so much the residents have green mold growing between their toes. Nothing ever happens in Elbow. I loved this book, my daughter loved this book and she's 12. My son loved this book and he's nearly 15 and my husband read it only after he could finally get his hands on it and dubbed it a page turner! This book is great for ALL the family and I agree with a previous reviewer that JK Rowling should look out because the writer is gifted and has created the most heart-warming and colourful characters. Bea is a great (tomboy) girl and her adventurous and brave search for the mystery of the Pickle King is a wonderful journey which hooks you from the start and makes you quite desperate to know the outcome. The scenes are painted in technicolour, easy to immerse yourself in a place quite foreign,The Pickle King but so well depicted you feel you are right there in the town where everything happens. This is a wonderful story which will delight children from about eight years and upwards.

Get this book! I purchased it for my 12 year daughter who could not put it down. We had to cancel her piano lessons on the Saturday it arrived as she refused to put the book down.
She ended up finishing it on the Sunday and now wants more. She cant stop talking about the characters who sound very quirky & interesting so I have started to read it. I must say that so far it's really appealing and seems to be suited for a much wider audience not just for kids. Well done to the debutant author and lets hope she can produce another stunner like this. JK Rowling watch this space.

My daughter, who is 8, read about this book in a magazine. She didn't stop hassling me until I bought it for her. It's on her behalf that I'm writing this review. I mean I didn't read the book, but she did. She devoured it.
We were on holiday by the beach with a swimming pool, but no, my daughter wasn't interested in all that summer holiday stuff: she wanted to progress through this book. In the end, we grew tired of asking her to splash around in the sea or the pool and thought it best to let her get to the end of 'The Pickle King', because there was no way that we were going to get to put this book down.
Our girl reads books in the category above her age, and she really loved this book. If I ask her, she will say that it was fantastic. Indeed, when she finally finished it, she thanked me for having bought it for.
So this is my review as a parent. If you get this book for your kids, they will certainly enjoy it. But you may have problems if you want them to do anything else because they will not want to put it down. Be warned!

could not put the book down
Enjoy alot of the diary of a wimpy kid and captin underpants so it was good to have something different not use to so many pages but when I started I could not put it down. Read more

what a great book, read it with my 10 year old and my seven year old, girls, and they both loved it. well written, and would make a great movie. dont hesitate, dive in !!
