Rachel hasn't been home for twenty years, now her mother is dead and she is is summoned back by her sister, but there are people she doesn't want to see and secrets she doesn't want to reveal. As she helps to clear her old home, evidence of a dark and difficult past plunge her into the centre of a murder investigation, and bring her face to face with the one person she really didn't want to meet again. This is quite a complicated story, with many twists and turns, nicely constructed and with believable, complex characters who never behave in the way you would expect. I love the way the author handles the various relationships between the characters, the way the plot unfolds, bit by bit but with one shocking revelation after another and the way the story ends. I also like the pacing and the way the various back stories are blended into the narrative.

What I didn't like at all was sloppy editing, where glaring typos regularly dragged me out of the narrative, spoiling my enjoyment of what is othewise a very good book.

Had potential but.... 23 Jan 2012
By IvyBlue
Format:Kindle Edition
Other reviewers have noted the poor editing but still managed to enjoy this book, but I found it impossible to finish. The book begins ok, and I was definitely intrigued enough for the first three chapters. After that, the cliched clumsiness of some expression, the spelling mistakes - eg 'un-phased' for 'unfazed' , the confusing structure which frequently switches from one scene to another from paragraph to paragraph, the repetitions and the contradictions on the same page, just overwhelmed the plot and I couldn't bear to carry on.
Perhaps any single one of these errors wouldn't matter, but combined they make this appear like a first draft, and turn the reader into an editor.
I have given 2 stars because a) I do think the plot has potential, and b) because I suppose it's possible it dramatically improved after I stopped reading.
