There are so many excellent bands coming out of Scotland at the moment; My Latest Novel, Frightened Rabbit and the wonderful Phantom Band, but my favourite by a mile is the amazing Mitchell Museum, whose debut album is outstanding.
It's kind of sixties psychedelic meets twenty-first century racket. There's no track-listing or samples to listen to on Amazon here yet, which is a shame, but think Yoshimi-period Flaming Lips, think Arcade Fire at their most thrashingly exuberant, think most recent Animal Collective offerings, and you'll come close to their sound.
Some tracks bounce along relentlessly, while others are dreamy and edgy. Each comes with infectious tunes, reverberating beats, quirky lyrics and wonderful chiming harmonies. Warning Bells, Tiger Heartbeat and Copy and Paste are my current favourites, but there isn't a weak track on the entire album.
It is so good listening to a band who are obviously having such a good time making their music. This is a wonderful, uplifting album and I love it.
