Product Description

A fast-paced, broad comedy sketch show based around Peter Serafinowicz's impressions and characters. In Peter's world, his uncanny impressions of real stars like Terry Wogan, Ewan McGregor, Al Pacino, Noel Edmonds, Simon Cowell, Christopher Walken, Kevin Spacey, Colin Farrell, Michael Caine, Laurel & Hardy, Elvis, Alan Alda, Chris Tarrant, and all four of the Beatles mingle with Peter's own creations, such as Terry Wogan's alcoholic identical twin Jerry, pretentious designer 'Keyhole', and Brian Butterfield, the world's most incompetent compensation lawyer. It's a world where sexy Pirates are waiting for your call, Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson are lovers and you can buy an M&S Christmas Pudding Sofa or a magazine dedicated to Elephants & Trains. And of course, O! NEWS - A regular strand that's a spoof US entertainment show as seen by hundreds of thousands of internet users on YouTube, in which Peter, as presenter Kennedy St King, reports on Hollywood nonsense ranging from Simon Cowell's new TV hit 'America's best male prostitute' to the new anatomically correct Oscar statuette.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best sketch show of the 00s 10 Aug 2009
Format:DVD
Peter Serafinowicz has created a silly, unpredictable, technically superb little marvel that's the antidote to identikit sketch shows.

It's right to be self-titled, because it feels like a unique comic brain squirting messily onto the screen. Who cares that nobody's saying "You'll soon grow to love the weird taste of internet ham" in the playground, or that accountants aren't impersonating Alan Alda ("Ludicrous! Preposterous!") by the water cooler? Serafinowicz is a bit weird for mass consumption, but I reckon that's a good sign.

None of the material seems like it's been squeezed out by a team of bored writers, churning out sketches for pin money before moving on to another depressingly similar show. Other shows' script editors would expunge the public information film about domestic sockets that leak poison, or the inept private investigator who tries to disguise himself using hats alone, for being too stupid for primetime telly. But they both made me weep.

You can feel the joy that went into making this. Lovingly crafted details are everywhere. Casual viewers might miss the Basil Fawlty Impersonator Chatline warning that "calls may be monitored by a Sybil Fawlty impersonator", or Darth Vader saying "ow" as he walks through a hologram. Even the dull Big Brother parody had one fantastic line: "Argy-bargy? I think it's short for argument-bargument..."

There are sketches that last for seconds but must have taken ages to make - take Ringo Starr's rejected theme for Goldfinger. The bobbing and pouting are perfect, the out-of-tune piano is spot on. Then as the song fades, "Ringo" explains that the song wasn't used because it took him seven years to write, by which time "the film had come and gone".

5.0 out of 5 stars Hopefully coming soon to ButterDisc! 10 Aug 2009
Format:DVD
A massively underrated comedy sketch show from the voice of Darth Maul himself and Duane Bensey from Spaced - Peter Serafio.... the guy from Look Around You!

Like all good sketch shows, you find yourself quoting from it endlessly. Brilliant send ups of The Beatles, Star Wars, Al Pacino, Michael Caine, Marlon 'The Hutt' Brando, as well as some brilliant original characters. I hated Butterfield at first, but he just gets funnier every time you watch him.

Bonbonbonbons or a pork cylinder, anyone?

5.0 out of 5 stars Serafinowicz is Splendiferous 10 Aug 2009
By K. Hill
Format:DVD
The Peter Serafinowicz Show has to be one of the most innovative comedies on TV in years, as well as being jolly hilarious!

I love the characters of Butterfield and the acting masterclasses.

If you missed it the first time round you realy must buy the DVD as it doesn't look like another series is being commissioned (v.sadly) for now at least.

I've just pre-ordered mine but want to watch it NOW! Man, life is so unfair- I can't even buy it for myself for Xmas, guess it will have to be my Valentine's Day pressie to my gorgeous self.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best sketch show since Python? 10 Aug 2009
By Alex
Format:DVD
It's a bold statement, but I defy you to find another sketch show that is so consistent in providing hilarity. One of the things that makes this show stand apart is that despite the format, it doesn't rely on the overuse of characters or the same jokes being repeated each episode but just with some vague twist that brings you ultimately to the same punch line. Instead, when characters such as Brian Butterfield (easily one of the great overlooked comedy characters of the last decade) reappear there is no set format and indeed the sketch can therefore go anywhere, keeping the ideas fresh, unlike shows such as Catherine Tate's and Little Britain where there is something of a case to be made for the argument of 'seen one; seen them all'.

Hilariously funny, wonderfully surreal and always enjoyable why wouldn't you want this out on DVD?

5.0 out of 5 stars A bloody lovely DVD 10 Aug 2009
Format:DVD
I love the Peter Serafinowicz Show so much. Even my mum likes it and she normally hates stuff I like. It's brilliant. Nine out of ten sketches are brilliant, and the other one out of ten are really really good. I will wait by my letterbox until this arrives, panting like a hot dog.

5.0 out of 5 stars I'm not waiting for this till Feb 2010!! 10 Aug 2009
Format:DVD
Release this DVD now. I've been waiting for the barking Beeb to repeat this and they studiously haven't done it, while simultaneously putting "Two Pints" on a continuous loop of liquorice.

I laughed like a strangled oven at this show. I actually now find the real commercial breaks funny, because I usually think of a sketch from Peter's show. This is a man who has MADE COMMERCIAL BREAKS TOLERABLE. Nobody has done that since those BT adverts in the late 80s.

What's more, the man sent a little piece of me to Heaven with Ringo Starr's version of the "Goldfinger" theme. And I'm an atheist.

Seriously, release this show on DVD immediately. If I have to wait till Feb 2010, I'll have to vandalise more of Hazel Blears' vehicles to pass the time.

THE PETER SERAFINOWICZ SHOW is as flawless as a show could be. The Beatles impressions. Brian Butterfield. Sherlock Holmes. Michael Caine. So much more. I'm not going to keep talking on and on and on about it - just BUY IT AND GET READY TO LAUGH.

2.0 out of 5 stars EDITED!! 18 Mar 2013
By RGP
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
Great show but this DVD has had sketches removed because they were too cheap to pay for the music rights. This means some of the funniest sketches, like the Butterfield karaoke bar, aren't included! The only indication of this is a very vague message on the back cover saying "may differ from broadcast" and my suspicions that sketches were missing were only confirmed when I listend to the commentary.
