This superb collection showcases the work of Peter McDougall, one of the least remembered but most powerful TV dramatists of the 1970s. The five disc set includes three magnificent entries from the BBC's 'Play For Today' strand: 'Just Another Saturday', 'The Elephants' Graveyard' and 'Just A Boy's Game' (1975-79), plus 1993's 'Down Among the Big Boys'. Set in Glasgow, the plays are by turns tough and uncompromising, humorous and fanciful. Billy Connolly appears in three of the plays, serving notice of his talents as an actor some years before 'Mrs Brown'. A fifth disc, featuring interviews with McDougall and actor Jon Morrison, provides a useful companion piece to the four plays. For anyone who wants to discover what 'Play For Today' did on a regular basis or who has an interest in contemporary Scottish drama, this collection is a must.
