Book Description

The Perils of 1925 is the first volume of The Chroniclers' Trilogy and a rollicking mystery with its feet firmly placed over the footprints of earlier, British Empire adventure, but its head in the madcap Twenties. (Think John Buchan and PG Wodehouse going hand in hand into the jungle to discover lost tribes.) There is a woman in white and a locked room mystery, an asylum, a collection of skulls and couple of secret passages. But, lurking beneath the baroque trappings, there are terrible Fascist theories germinating that will seed the coming books.

British Period Adventure or light-hearted Crime Mystery? The Chroniclers' Trilogy is both of these and more. Five characters chronicle their own adventures, from the shocking Perils of 1925, through the calamitous Débâcles of 1935 to the puzzling Enigmas of 1945. You will come to care about the Chroniclers as they grow with their stories; shaped by their Era, yet always brave, humorous and ready to tackle the next adventure.

5.0 out of 5 stars Thoroughly enjoyed it. 9 Mar. 2013

I have now read all three books in this series and have not been disappointed. Although I am not a historian I have found nothing to disappoint me in the author's research (which I have unfortunately found too common in many books that I read). I also liked the story being told by the many characters, allowing you to understand more about the way they think as well as moving about in the story to keep you involved. I found myself amused, saddened and wanting to know what was going to happen. An enjoyable way to pass my time.

4.0 out of 5 stars Really Nice 20 Nov. 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
And it is nice; a good read with interesting characters and lovely footnotes explaining the bits and pieces of 1920's English life for those of us who were not around at the time and haven't studied the period. I thought the main villain was a bit weak and was disposed of more by accident than by the will of one of the heroes. Bulldog Drummond's adversary, Carl Peterson would have been more careful. I shall certainly get the next two volumes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Couldn't wait to read book 2! 11 May 2013

The story across all three books kept me gripped and wanting to read more. I would recommend this book to those that like historical type novels. Although each book could be read as individual books in their own rights it was nice to follow the story through 3 decades charting the lives of the different characters and how social standing changed during those 3 decades. A thoroughly enjoyable read with a good fast paced plot.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Pleasures of 2013! 25 Mar. 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I've just been on holiday and greedily devoured this trilogy one after another and have nothing but praise for these wonderful books full of interesting, lively, amusing, likeable, impetuous, annoying, exasperating, humorous, flawed but lovable characters. I have laughed and cried while living their adventures with them and am very sorry that there's only three books. The characters progression over the three books is interesting and very believable, even if the scrapes they find themselves in are rather extraordinary!

Many thanks to Claire Ingrams who created a bally good read all round, what?! :)

I absolutely loved this book!
It is a brilliant mix of eccentric characters and music hall humour with every scene bursting to life from the page with clever description that never gets too wordy.
It is a gripping tale of murder and mayhem, full of life both rich and poor which has so many twists and turns its gripping to the end.
The scenes are set so beautifully its as if you are watching not reading it and with the historical accuracies it would make a fantastic TV adaptation.
I can't wait to see the next two books available.

5.0 out of 5 stars Old friends 15 July 2013
By Brendan
Format:Kindle Edition
Like an old friend, sometimes an author manages to spring a surprise. I was thrilled to come across this witty, crafted slice of Buchan-leaning, old fashioned and deeply amusing nod to an earlier and much loved English adventure yarn. The author already occupies that place in the McGowan library under 'much missed'.
