Product Description

Nine-year-old Flo is a talented cook, and as the Food and Fun Fest looms on the Dog Bone Asteroid, she sets out to secure the ingredients for the Perfect Pudding, in exchange for some of her parents' inventions. Helped by the creative talents of her seven-year-old brother, Hugo, Flo hopes to create a spectacular pudding that the family can trade for foodstuffs that will keep them going for another year of space travel. Flying in the family space pod, armed with unique inventions such as the Tasty-and Smelly-Visions and Paper with Flavour, Flo visits Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Saturn and Jupiter, in search of original and delectable delights, such as hot ice cream and volcano-smoked pancakes, for her Perfect Pudding. Full of colourful planetary facts, wacky inventions, near disaster and a lot of laughter, Flo and Hugo's ingenuity is tested to the very last minute.

About the Author

Fiona Ross grew up in Motherwell in Scotland.  She graduated from Jordanhill College in Glasgow as a primary school teacher in 1993 and has worked with children ever since.  It was while she was teaching a class about Space that she decided to write a funny adventure story with facts about planets.  It’s Fiona’s experience that Space is a favourite topic for children in school and with extraordinary things to learn about like Pancake Domes and the Dog Bone Asteroid it’s little wonder.  Fiona hopes that class teachers will find The Perfect Pudding an enjoyable accompaniment to their Space projects and that it will further develop children’s interest in the planets. This is Fiona’s first novel.  She works as a teacher in Edinburgh and lives in Cramond with her husband and three young children.

I'm going to use this short kids novel when working with kids in school as they learn about space. It's a good story, lots of fun and informative too.

A great first book. 7 Oct 2011
My two daughters thoroughly enjoyed this book. One of them was learning about space at school and found the book informative as well as entertaining. It's a nice easy book to read and I think both girls and boys would enjoy it.
