All I want for Christmas is you!

If you’re a wedding planner it’s best not to have affairs with married men. This is one cardinal rule that Robyn always abides by. But then she meets Jonathan…

After a delicious dalliance in the dance studio, Robyn and Jonathan fall truly, madly, deeply in love. Jonathan justifies his actions because his wife is a workaholic, while Robyn finds the glamour – free from any mundane concerns – thrilling.

But then the pressure mounts up: the guilt; the lies; the strain of it all. With the festive season approaching, can Robyn make this the best holiday ever or will it be the nightmare before Christmas?

This is the perfect winter read for fans of Milly Johnson and Kate Harrison.

4.0 out of 5 stars An almost-perfect read! 15 Sep 2011
By Chloe S "Chick Lit Chloe" TOP 500 REVIEWER
Format:Kindle Edition
Christmas books are among some of the only books I actually hang onto because I love to read them again at a certain time of year. Georgie Carter a.k.a. Ruth Saberton is releasing her first book through Avon, and it's a lovely festive themed read, complete with obligatory gorgeous snowy cover. I thought it sounded like a really fun story and found it a really fun book to read, and think it's definitely going to be a keeper on my `Festive Reads' shelf!

Robyn Hood - yes that really is her name - is a wedding planner who is pretty unlucky herself with love, yet she loves to make others' dreams come true for their big day. After the end of her relationship with Patrick, Robyn writes herself a list to achieve by the end of the year to achieve her perfect christmas. However, she doesn't count of falling in love with a married man. I did have a bit of a problem with this storyline, I really don't like when female characters pursue married men, especially when they know from the beginning they are spoken for, and I don't know why writers would choose to write things like that. I did like Robyn for the most part but at the same time, part of me disliked her because of her going after Jonathan, and being silly enough to believe the usual married man story about his wife and their (lack of) relationship.

However, the writing of the story was wonderful, it flowed really nicely and I love how the weddings that Robyn organised were described, you could vividly imagine the scenes happening in real life from the words on the page. Love is a really important theme throughout the book, and many different relationships are showcased during the book from whirlwind romances, celebrity wedding, a gay relationship, long term love and mother/daughter relationships, and friendships too.

2.0 out of 5 stars Get a grip... (SPOILERS) 2 Jan 2012
By C. Rucroft VINE™ VOICE
Format:Kindle Edition
This was my last Christmas read for 2011 so I was hoping it would be a good one. The front cover and synopsis seemed very promising so it was looking good.

The book focuses on Robyn Hood (I know) who is a wedding planner. She is trying to get over her ex Patrick who she split with because she didn't want children. She meets Jonathan at a friends dinner party who she becomes 'friends' with even though he is married. Before long, they are having an affair and Robyn tries to convince herself that this is ok because Jonathan has told her his wife is a workaholic.

For me, the story was dull from the beginning. I hated the main character and couldn't understand how she could possibly justify having an affair with a married man. All the preening and constant cliches drove me mad and I felt like screaming 'get a grip!'

I could see the ending coming and I didn't think it particularly went with the story. She'd gone from not wanting kids to not being able to get enough of them! It was also so unrealistic how her friends were so cross with her one minute but all was forgiven so easily!

My last complaint is with the cover. It has absolutely nothing to do with the cover and is a little misleading. The story is only about Christmas at the very beginning and end.

All in all, very disapointed. I gave it two stars as I did manage to finish it but there are authors who do this type of story much, much better.

4.0 out of 5 stars The perfect Christmas read 28 Sep 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
I enjoyed this book.

First of all i wasnt sure about the story line of Robyn having an affair with married man but this did not stop me reading it, and more i kept reading the more i was enjoying it.

Robyn is a wedding planner and after her ex cheating on her, she compiles a must do list before christmas. This includes her company to make 30K, to get over her Ex, to have a baby, to get of with her mum, learn swing dancing and to find a boyfriend.

She meets Jonathan in the pouring rain and soon their friendship becomes more than friends. Signing up to do Swing dance together and Jonathan wife being a workaholic Robyn falls madly in love and can see a future together. Will this to do list get marked off her list.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not so perfect Christmas 6 Dec 2011
By Leah Graham TOP 1000 REVIEWER
Format:Kindle Edition
Georgie Carter's (aka Ruth Saberton) The Perfect Christmas is a novel that will divide people. Depending how you feel about affairs, and women who justify affairs in the most ridiculous of ways, you'll either love this book or hate this book. Me? I'm somewhere in the middle. I can say with absolute certainty I didn't love it. And I can say with certainty I didn't hate it. At best, I'm indifferent to it. I don't like books about affairs, and when you compound it with a woman who says a wife doesn't deserve her husband because she's (potentially) a workaholic, well, you're going to get short-shrift with me. I get that life isn't black and white, that there are shades of grey, but an affair is as black or white as you're going to get and, frankly, it's wrong. I don't like them, I don't believe in them, and it takes a heck of a lot for me to change my mind whilst reading about them. Specifically with someone who can't just admit that she's having an affair and that it doesn't matter who the married one is, an affair is an affair.

Every single Chick Lit novel with an affair as its theme is either two kinds of affair: a) a man who's kicked to the kurb because he's a rat and b) a woman who's forgiven for doing it "as long as she's having fun". I don't like how women who cheat are fine and dandy, but men are portrayed as awful love rats. Take for example, Robyn Hood, the heroine of The Perfect Christmas. She's having an affair, she's to all intents and purposes fine with it... But her dad cheated on her mother and left them in the lurch and she treats him like crap, questioning him about it at one point in the novel. Like she has the moral highground. It drives me up the wall, who the heck is Robyn to question someone when she's doing the. exact. same. thing?
