5.0 out of 5 stars One of the most powerful books I have ever read. 30 May 2014
Format:Paperback
I brought a copy of 'The Perennial Philosophy' in hardback in my twenties and it has stayed in my memory as one of the powerful books I have ever read. Huxley argues the case for eternal universal truth which is independent of time, place and culture by surveying that essential ingredient which all of the world's religious traditions have in common: a thread of mystical experience. the author uses unforgotten quotes from enlightened men and women throughout the ages to illustrate the essential similarity in what they have to say about the nature of their illumination. This book is a must for anyone seeking a deeper meaning to life.

The Beam of Interest: Taken by Storm
Hypnotic Tales 2013: Some Light Some Dark
Call of the Void: The Strange Life and Times of a Confused Person: 1

5.0 out of 5 stars "We read to know that we are not alone" (C.S. Lewis) 2 Jun 2013
By bernie - Published on Amazon.com
This is a good anthology of the perennial philosophy. The design is easy to follow and too interesting to put aside. The excerpts from many sources are organized in such subjects as "Good and Evil" and "Time and Eternity." He specifically chose people that experienced what they are talking about as apposed to philosophers that take educated guesses at Reality. Some individual reader may come to different conclusions. But at least what is presented here is a concept not to be missed.

This book makes a great stepping stone to all the other writings and a good starting place for ones personal quest. There is a pretty comprehensive list of recommended books.

The excerpts are encapsulated with a clear definition and other examples of what is being expressed. It is always better to have someone tell you what you already know but in a different way. This allows for different insights. More then that it lets us know that "We are not alone."

This looks like it was handmade at Fedex-Kinkos. The title page is EXTREMELY pixelated, obviously computer-scanned and enlarged. The back page has a picture of Huxley with another tiny random picture of Huxley next to his head, why?? The pages are also obviously photocopied (poorly) and reprinted, some even have stamps/sticker copies covering portions of the text. It leaves me wondering if the "publisher" even printed this legally? Very strange.

TPP is a classic text on the subject of religion, such an important work. It is an insult that such a poorly published copy has been put up for sale.

The book was in the condition that the seller stated it was in. The price was right and it arrived in a timely manor. This is all that mattered to me.
