Book Description

6 April 2000 0711216088 978-0711216082 New edition
This book advocates a new way of using perennials that works with – rather than against - nature. Noël Kingsbury explores planting schemes designed to suit the existing condition of your garden. If your soil is poor and fast draining, choose tough hardy cultivars that will thrive in these conditions. Try an informal planting style that echoes nature: a structure that's loose rather than tight, where perennials are blended together rather than grouped in a rigid manner.

These environmentally friendly plantings inspired by nature can create exotic, beautiful gardens that need less upkeep and less watering, less feeding and fewer chemicals than more artificial schemes. Noel Kingsbury shows how it's done.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perennial Gardening with a flourish 29 Mar 2010
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
A lovely book, full of exquisite photographs showing the possible end results. Not just a pretty book but good sound advise on preparing the ground, choices of site easy and awkward, colour combinations and flower choices. Even planting for a meadow, and the follow up of good maintenance. A definite book to purchase.

This book is detailed in that it explains how best to work with the natural elements freely available to you. It explains which plants thrive in clay soils, sandy, dry, and overly moist. A great thing about this book is that it has lots of pictures for ideas and inspiration, as well as perenial plant lists that do well together. This book has alot of great info and was a pleasure to read. It helped get me exicted about creating my perennial garden this year.
