I seem to go for gothic when I'm in need of a nice, therapeutic read (Edgar Allan Poe when under stress last summer, that sort of thing) and this does the trick beautifully. Whether you're just looking for a good story to make you shiver, or are interested in the historical progression of the vampire myth and the ways different writers have used it symbolically, it's great fun to read. The stories range from deeply chilling, traditional vampire tales to the ridiculously melodramatic penny-dreadfuls of the 1800s to thoughtful modern sci-fi variations, and don't miss the hilarious account of the new werewolf who meets a rather nice vampire and is taken home to meet her parents...

This collection is a rarity in several sense, namely: -
1) Unlike similar heavy-named anthologies, this collection actually concentrates on packing a large no. of very good stories (including classics as well as almost unknown stories), from different authors who are very-very famous in their own fields, and thus creates an intense competition among themselves in the mind of the reader by having their differently styled (& themed) works placed side-by-side.
2) Most of the stories are very good, and collectively they cover nearly all kinds of 'vampirical' entities who can prey upon others (I would like to emphasise the 'prey' aspect, to differentiate them from the "Twilight"-sagan entities).

This is an excellent collection of vampire stories. There is much variety in the stories ranging from science fiction to classic romance. There are some very famous authors, including Bram Stoker, and some lesser known authors. I can honestly say that I enjoyed every story in this book. I especially liked "Shambleau" - a science fiction vampire story based on the legend of Medusa. A must for all lovers of the vampire legend!

A great collection of short stories.
For anyone interested in the horror genre this is an excellent book, and very easy reading.
