Product Description

Set in the same world as War of the Lords Veil, this novel tells a parallel story of ordinary men struggling against oppression and sorcery, but two generations have lived and died since the earlier events.

About the Author

* Epic sword and sorcery fantasy from a new talent - likened to the bestselling David Gemmell * In Elinor Whiteblade, Nichols has created a heroine to rival Maggie Furey's Aurian * 'The best part of this book is that it doesn't come across like an odyssey...The characters are so accessible, and their thoughts so unheroic, that, at times times you can recognise yourself... Well-written, and funny in a not-trying-to-impress way. Nice One' Area 51 * 'Millennium is pushing Nichols as the next David Gemmell, and not without reason...inventive and descriptive powers are both of a high order' Interzone

Well after reading Nichols's first novel I was hoping this one was going to be much better, Sadly it wasn't, this novel only just scraped by the three star mark. And as for the claim on the front cover that this guy is the new Gemmell, no, no and no again. He has knowhere near the skill that Gemmell had, his stories are knowhere near as good, the characters are boring, unlike Druss and Waylander and the fight scenes what few they are, are tepid to say the least. The only good thing about Nichols is that he is a good writer, sadly the quality of the story just isn't there. And sadly for me I bought all of his books from Amazon, so I still have his fantasy trilogy to read. I'm crossing my fingers that these three will be better.

There is an alternative to the material world - another way of seeing things. This is the lure of this adventure story - that humans (or at least our hero and heroine) might be able to secure peace and safety through understanding 'The Pathless Way', where nothing is as it seems in the 'real' world. Good development of character. Well worth a read - I am now looking for more from this author.
